It's about to begin 30 minutes from now. You get to see the Republicans argue amongst themselves and attack Barack Obama. Although I don't blame you if you say, "um, no". I'm watching it only because I can fact check politicians. But you can watch it here...

I might miss this if the hockey game proves worth watching. Please let me know if there is any true patriotic conservative candidates. I'm looking for a real rhino, somebody who won't call BHO a "nice guy who means well". I want the candidate who calls out Obama for being the corrupt, neo-Marxist, Muslim-sympathizing, petty dictator that he is - which I doubt any of them have the balls to do.

If they had the balls to do that, they'd have to speak the truth about themselves and their own party. Which wouldn't get them very far.

My fact check of a claim by Minnestoa Rep. Michele Bachmann (R). This is me paraphrasing what she said because there isn't a transcript of the debate yet.

"The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said Obamacare (the health care reforms) would kill 800,000 jobs."

This was a claim by Republicans and conservative pundits that popped up in February 2011. It's all based upon a statement CBO Director Doug Elmendorf made during testimony before a House committee.

REP. JOHN CAMPBELL, R-CA: "That means that, in your estimation, the health care law would reduce employment by 800,000 in '20-'21. Is that correct?"

ELMENDORF: "Yes. The way I would put it is that we do estimate, as you said, that the household employment will be about 160 million by the end of the decade. Half a percent of that is 800,000. That means that if the reduction in the labor used was workers working the average number of hours in the economy and earning the average wage, that there would be a reduction of 800,000 workers."

What Bachmann, and the Republicans/conservatives before her don't say is that CBO estimates those workers will decide to quit jobs because they no longer have to work in an attempt to keep health insurance. They will have other alternatives for insurance, and therefore don't have to work in jobs that they only choose to work in because that's the only way they feel they can get insurance.

Here's a whole fact check on the claim from The Washington Post:

Fact Checker - Playing games with CBO testimony on jobs and the health-care law

My fact check of a claim made by Mitt Romney, former Republican Governor of Massachusetts. (Again, me paraphrasing Romney because no transcript available).

"Obama's policies have slowed the U.S. economy."

Fact: In the forth quarter of 2008 (the quarter immediately before Obama took over), U.S. GDP was 14,191.2 billion dollars. Preliminary estimation for GDP in the first quarter of 2011: 15,010.3 billion dollars.

The first and second quarters of 2009 slid from that of 4Q 2008, but the second half of 2009 began the rebound.

Romney's claim: False.
