Parliamentary page sacrifices her job for anti-Harper protest

Perhaps you may not want to note that I have corrected the occasional errant post against Harper - even though I detest the man. Objective? Not really. I don't like outright lies....

The forum needs more non-partisan posters like you. Hopefully we can work on it, but in the meantime those non-partisan among us will have to step up our efforts. Just today someone compared the youth wing of the Conservative Party to the Hitler Youth. We needed you in that thread to correct that kind of nonsense.

It's not too late though! Here's the post:

Harper Youth ... three letters away from looking like truth....

Get correctin'!

Okay ... ego then.
If you say so.

Either way - your problem....
Doesn't appear to be so. I'm not the one that has to resort to stretching reality, or making stuff up about politicians because your ideology differs from theirs.

Why do you get to do that, but my cherry picking, or quote mining is a problem for you?

That's obvious - spinningly so

Funny how none of the righteous right have answered the question about how much gloating among the Harper bunch there would be had DePape's little sign read "Stop Layton"....

I am still waiting for the CC lefties to comment on how they feel if this had happened.

Still no answer.

btw, you must not count me as a righteous right because I have already stated that I think it was unethical regardless of the message.

Oh Gawd ... there's TWO of you? ;-)

Okay.... The age factor is kicking in. I recognize the SG. Who's the player?

Of COURSE you don't......

You never heard of free speech.

Let me make this clear for you:

RIGHTS DO NOT EXIST AT THE PLEASURE OF GOVERNMENT.

If there is a right to free speech, than silent respectful free speech is allowed on the public street. If not, there is no right.

DePape, as inappropriate as her self-centered little outburst was, is not in jail.

Nor has ANYONE suggested she should be.

So, how can you defend DePape, but support the imprisonment of this woman? Who, BTW, made a much more appropriate protest in a much more appropriate place.

Who said I am condemning either?

DePape's consequence was to be fired.

Gibbs' was to be thrown in jail.

They both suffered consequences as a result of protest in restricted areas. I have no bearing on the severity of those consequences.

0 conflict in logic here.

I know it's breach of Parliamentary etiquette. You know it's breach of Parliamentary etiquette. DePape knows it's breach of Parliamentary etiquette. Quite likely someone frowned upon all the letters I sent off to Mike Harris signed "With all due respect" too. (haven't had cause to spout off on the Feds - yet) Protests are like that.

BALONEY.

Man, are you ever twisting yourself into knots over this one.....

DePape suffered NO punishment at the hands of government.....she was fired from her job because she violated the terms of her employment....BIG TIME. She lost three weeks of employment. For every day of work DePape lost, Gibbons has spent six months in jail.

And Gibbons carried out a quiet, peaceful protest in a public street.

DePape spat upon the democratic will of the people, and was in contempt of Parliament.

Gibbons has spent years in jail.

If you think there is no difference, no "conflict in logic" there....well, then you are completely hopeless.

And as I've said a dozen times, I really don't give a rat's arse what the little brat did........like any four year old in a tantrum because things didn't go her way, she should be completely ignored.

What gets me is the complete idiots that support her actions.....as supposed adults, THEY should know better.

I wonder what was said about that tea in Boston Harbour (more folk to whom you bestow blind adoration)....

Here, we had pork barrelling in Muskoka ... or the head-bashing at Queens Park (the designated G20 protest area) Fighter jets and military spending I support. Harper's narcissistic need for control and Conservative bullying we don't. In that, I support DePape whole-heartedly.

Gibbons? She's there because she doesn't want to post bail. Read the whole story.

The reason praise for DePape irritates me is that she was spitting on the very thing the American revolutionaries were fighting for: representative gov't and the Speech from the Throne, the symbol of the triumph of the will of the people over the English monarchy.

Therefore those that support her are giving voice to an unthinkingly UNdemocratic point of view.

If you've read my posts, you know I am unhappy with a LOT of Harper's agenda and previous actions.....unfortunately, he was by far the best offered, and he won a clear mandate.

That is democracy.

And Gibbons is there because she will NOT surrender her right to engage in totally peaceful protest on a public street.

She has been treated MUCH worse than the aforementioned G 20 protesters.........and no, I don't approve of attacks on free speech, no matter WHAT the view of the speaker.

Unlike you guys.

Let's be honest here.. If DePape continued this stunt in parliament (if she ever gets back in parliament, lol), then I'm sure she'll be facing worse than a simple termination of employment.

Oh, don't be silly!

First of all, I'm back in NB.

Second of all....desert is hardly my kinda terrain.....I'm not stupid enough to go wandering off.......

Thirdly, how can I be intimidating to a bunch of people I can't see, don't know, and have no contact with except as a few lines of script on a screen???

If the lefties pee their panties over a pic....geez......get a life!!!

Oh, I read your posts. How do you suppose I knew pork-barrelling and G20 would be great tacks to stick on your chair? I might even have gone so far as to mention altered documents and lying to Parliament after the fact - apparently sanctioned by Harper. True, the Tea Party was a protest against oppressive government. Isn't oppressive somehow related to control - something Harper can't govern without?

It might interest you to know I AM one of those disillusioned Conservatives. It took an on-the-job accident and the reality of Social Services to jolt me into the real world.

She has not been banned from the grounds.......she has every right to protest.....if she wants to go to the Hill and quietly hold up a dozen STOP HARPER signs, no one will pay her notice........she will face exactly NOTHING.

Get real..

Well she already endured the parliamentary punishment of termination.

Are you saying that she should have been thrown in jail for holding up the sign?
