3rd Period no Goals

Yes scores with 19 seconds to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ryan Kesler RULES!

Ole! Ole! Ole! Ryan rocks but let's not forget Hansen who also assisted and Raffe who got the goal!

Heck of a game - hope they got all that penalty stuff out of their systems tonight - I lost count of how many each team took.

Shut-out for Lu! And Timmie did his stuff well too - could have been a much different score had he not done his usual antics in the net. Thought that penalty on Burrows was really sleazy - it was clear that Tim was out of the blue and Alex got pushed into him. AV said he would be looking for clarification on penalties like that - good on him.

Glad this game is behind us and we can settle down to winning the series!

GO, CANUCKS, GO! :canada:

What a relief.

Boston is like Nashville with more talent.

They are a tough team and play hard but I wouldn't have it any other way - brings out the beasts in our guys and they need that spirit if they are to win the Cup.

The Dos Equis man rocked tonight up until the final seconds. I think this is going to be one heck of a series.

I hollered at the TV as the period was coming to an end, " OK YOU GUYS GO DOWN AND SCORE RIGHT NOW
AND NO OVERTIME, they did, great goal, classy goal, thomas thought hansen was going to shoot, then
he dropped that sweet pass over to torres, and he softly put it away.

one down, three to go

they're having a chit chat about burrows biting bergeron in that scuffle. I did
see the glove in his face, and I did see him bite at the glove finger, not sure if he
actually bit down or not, couldn't tell from the replay.

It was quite a good, entertaining game. A lot of back and forth up and down the ice. I think the Canucks did outplay Boston tonight by just a bit and both goalies were stellar so 1-0 was a fitting score.

I'll be quite happy with 3 more games just like that with the same 1-0 outcome for Vancover. I'm on the road Saturday travelling but might just have to take a 3 hour dinner break somewhere.

Boston's coach said he thought the first two periods were pretty even then they (Boston) lacked some energy in the third. There is a pattern. Vancouver seems to take over most third periods. Perhaps they just wear other teams down over the course of most games.

yes, that has been a pattern, and I wasn't surprised to see that process take place, canucks
really ramp up their play, and retain all of their energy in the third, a real strength.
boston can't be familiar with that speed all thru a game, I know that tampa bay is
a fast team too, but not nearly as deep as canucks, who have lots of speed right
thru each line.

but the goalies dictated the play tonight, in my opinion, canucks could have had quite a lead,
by the third period, thomas's saves were much more difficult than luongo's, although luongo was
definitely playing a great game too.

Yes both goalies were strong.

Tampa was fast but not very physical.

I expect Boston will try to be more physical in game 2. They'll need to wear down Vancouver. I hope the Canucks can hang on and keep dishing back.

I hope so too, but I noticed chara dumped on his 'butt' a few times tonight, thats a long way down.
That expression 'the bigger they are the harder they fall, certainly applys to him.

I made a similar comment last night as I was watching it with my daughter-in-law. Unfortunately I missed the first period as I didn't realize it was starting so early. Enough ways to screw a man up without starting a playoff game at the wrong time.

Now I realize that biting is a punishable offense; However - how thick are those gloves they wear??? Thick enough to catch a puck going what maybe 70 mph???? I could understand if Alex was a vampire or werewolf, but really I laughed so hard when I saw the Boston player holding his finger out for the ref - ooh look at my owie!

I also noticed the non-calls on the multiple checks on Henrik behind the net and the stupid call on Alex when Tim was clearly out of his zone. If Alex gets a suspension for this I will be really, really, really angry.

I always get a kick out of Timmie's 'style' of goal-keeping. The way he throws his body around in the net must be so exhausting. Bet he was glad in a way that the game didn't go to OT.

no suspension for burrows

the gloves are thick on the top, but very soft and flexible and thinner on the underside of the fingers and palm.

I saw burrows put his mouth over the glove, but did not see him actually bite down, and that
is the conclusion of the report, 'no' proof of him biting.

thomas plays up and out of his crease many times, and he is in 'open' territory, I hope they realize
that many of the bumps he takes, are actually 'coincidental contact' and not 'goalie interference', unless
of course it is intent to take him out.

Luongo makes many many very difficult saves, BUT he is so technically sound, and
plays positionally well, the saves look easy, totally opposite to thomas, who makes
most saves look amazing, but he is working way too hard, out of position many times,
uses up so much energy, so emotional, I find him hard to watch, he is like a beer
league goalie who stops everything. He is a happy guy, one can see him smiling in
the net many times, he fights for everything with all his ability, and good for him
making it to the NHL, as most goalies like him would never make it.

I hope everyone appreciates how much better a goalie luongo is, as he doesn't draw
the attention to himself like thomas, the style and position are beautiful to watch,
and most don't realize how difficult 'the' shot might have been, if thomas was
making the same save he would have looked like a pretzel, flipping over, down then
up, out of his crease, and works so hard.

both goalies played amazing.

It is nice to see the league decided they could not be sure there was any biting and therefore did not suspend Alex - though I hope he is able to learn from this and try to avoid any similar incidents. That said, when I was on the G&M and TSN websites today, fans were all over the topic and one bright fellow brought up the fact that all players wear mouth-guards these days so truly how hard could a bite be and one final word on the subject - if anyone was so stupid as to shove their hand in my mouth, my instinctive reaction would be to bite that hand if for no other reason than to impede its progress further down my gullet. LOL!

Very relieved that Alex will be with the team on Saturday though I hear that Manny didn't practice with the team today and there is no word yet on Hamhuis (sp?) injury - if he isn't able to come back, I understand we will see Ballard take his place - Ballard of the now famous hip check on McGuinn - would love to see him get that chance against one of the Boston bullies. LOL!

GO, CANUCKS, GO!

I watched a few replays multiple times of the 'Burrows Bite' and from what I can tell the finger went in his mouth before he moved his head or there was any 'biting' motion. I would conclude the league saw the same thing and gave the correct ruling. If you put your finger between somebody's teeth you might just get bit. The obvious solution to the complaint is keep your hand off the other guy's face.;-)

yes, I agree, but it seems that it is acceptable to push one's sweaty smelly glove all over someone's
face, around his mouth etc., but just one attempt to bite or appear to bite is a no no, and is
scorned at. Ferraro, on team 1040 this morning said if it was his decision he would give burrows a
one game suspension for doing something very much frowned upon. It is one of those things in the
'code' by the players, like kicking etc.
But when Darren Pang came on the radio, and chatted with ferraro, he said that if he had ever put his glove
in ferraro's face or mouth area, it would have been bitten totally off. lol

I hope burrows just stays away from that type of interaction at all which happened between he and
bergeron last night, he is suppose to be above that type of thing now, and just leave it to the
new 'tough' guys to do, and he is moving on into a more classy area.

But I do feel for burrows because the officials will let players do more to him before they call
a penalty than they let go with other players, hence he gets roughed around a lot.

All I can say is that if somebody wants to put their dirty mitt in my face and a finger in my mouth they might not get that finger back at all. It would certainly make the next guy think twice before doing it.

Burrows got away with this incident, right or wrong, however he needs to tone down the shenanigans before it costs the team. The bump on Thomas wasn't incidental contact. He tackled his guy early in the game at took a penalty for it, when vancouver was pouring it on. Was it a double minor he got during the end of period face-washing?

I was hoping Burrows would've got his one-game suspension. Instead we'll get a bunch of refs watching and possibly making an even up call.

I've kept all the fingers I've bit off.

Someone once asked me how come I'm so youthful and vibrant. I told them its because I have the brain of a small child. Which I keep in a mason jar right next to that other jar of pickled fingers.

Thomas was outside the blue paint and as such is fair game. The ref who was spitting distance away didn't call the hit it was one 80'+ away who was in the wrong.

nothing will change with the officials re: burrows, they are always watching him, and they nab him
for stuff, and they let stuff go that is done to him, he has a reputation, and he has to live with
it.
I watched a replay of the 'finger gate' issue, there was no chomping down from him, seemed to be a
warning with his teeth, "see what I can do if I want to?", and it looks like the league saw it the
same way.
the selling job bergeron tried by skating over to the ref showing him his finger was comical.

how come he didn't show pain and suffering when the alleged bite took place, and someone said his
finger was bleeding, that can't be so, because that would have been the proof to the ref when he
showed his finger, and there certainly would have been a suspension. nope, no blood, and no pain.

but burrows must not get into those scuffles again, just turn and skate away, like he has been doing
all year, and i'm sure he will get back to that, more classy style again.
