Lucky to break even.you guys forget the boom the Saskatchewan has experienced over the past 5 or more years. Cost of living has gone up by more than 12%. If these teachers get their 12%, they are still going backwards.
really? Do they make too much?simple enough to deal with them. Just fire the greedy folk. There are plenty of qualified people more than willing to work for their wages.
Why would anyone come to make less money than they would somewhere else? How many teachers are there in Saskatchewan? I doubt it would be an easy job to fill all those vacant positions...prairie life isn't for everyone...
And how many interviews do you think can be done in one day? Might be a full time job just to go through the interview process needed to fill all those positions.

That's about half of PEI isn't it?
People like to whine and bitch about the teachers but I'd challenge any of you to sit in my kids' classes and not go completely insane. If we want quality teachers, it starts with quality pay.
Welcome to the economic climate of the time. Everyone except the bankers is losing ground to inflation and the cost of living so what's the whining about?Lucky to break even.
I would say there are SOME teachers worth what they are paid. My experience over the last 13 years has been most are glorified babysitters who signed up for the benefits and 4 months holidays.I've done some ugly jobs over the years, from butchering cattle to repossessing furniture
(which I did for many years....), but being a Teacher is something I couldn't (or wouldn't)
want to ever do. I just wouldn't have it in me to put up with the things they'd have to deal
with on an ongoing daily basis. I just couldn't do it. That's just being honest.
The Teachers are worth every penny they're paid, and then some.
The next walk-out in the week coming up is suppose to be on Wednesday & Thursday.
Monday being a holiday, the kids will have school on Tuesday & Friday only this week.

Really? Firing people for engaging in legal collective bargaining? You seen to have a very narrow view of democracy. BTW try hiring 20,000 or so skilled professionals at short notice. You'll find it really isn't that easy.
Anyone thats good at reading out of a book and making a interesting presentation could replace them.
Most skill professionals in this country are over rated.
I'd say one in five teachers are any good.
Here is proof kids do just as well without a teacher. take a look at the research.

What is the difference between a teacher and an indoctrinator?
In Saskatchewan, apparently, NOTHING.
Nice description of the useless tits that call themselves teachers. Lousy description of those that want to actually work.
BTW can you give me some sort of reference to support the one in five number - or did you just make that up?
I would rate that one out of 5 of my teachers where great. From personal experience.
Do they even bother to ask the kids if they think schools any good.
I bet not. I also think they would be told school sucks donkey dick, and that cause it dose
20% of teachers I had where great teachers.
60% average.
20% bad.
What was the worst of all is our system Its a huge institution.
you go sit day in and day out as a student in schools and you tell me how interesting it is?
Its like sending our kids to prison.
Canadian schools suck big time. its a crime just sending our kids to this crap.
cranky, with all due respect to Jack London, who should have stuck with writing about half-breed dog/wolf cross animals, he forgot about the life form that is much, much, much lower than the person he called a SCAB.
According to you and Jack London, the honest person, the breadwinner, who wants to provide for his family is a SCAB. You and Jack London call the person who has the nerve to believe that he has a RIGHT to work and look after his family, a SCAB. You and Jack London call the person who stands up to the selfish unionist a SCAB.
And who is a unionist? THE real lowest form of a miserable life. A person who has absolutely no clue about his own worth and demands champagne and caviar wages for beer and peanuts work. The person who in his delusion thinks that being a flesh and blood, but brainless automoton on an assembly line deserves and is worth what no person with logical brain would ever thinks he deserves. A unionist is a person, who is basically gutless and brainless to speak and act for himself and needs the mob behind him with the threats and acts of violence against everyone that disagrees with him. A unionist would rather see his job going to China or India than realize that he is not worth anywhere near as much as he thinks he is.
And the saddest thing is that the cancer of unionism affected and contaminated people who are dedicated to their craft and consider it more than just a JOB, indeed a profession and a calling.
I am willing to bet that a teacher that feels that teaching is his CALLING, that teaching the next generation, would be selfless and honest enough not to have no part of a union. Just let them have SECRET vote, truly an anathema to unionist bullies.
Unfortunately, two months of vacation is tempting enough to say, screw it all. And then go and teach the kids to do and say the same.
Personally, I worked through several strikes in my 37+ years of employment, so feel free and call me a SCAB.
I always negotiated my own pay. When I left the company through retirement I knew that I can always come back and shake the hands of the employees who are still there and knew about me.
