Seein' as you don't live in the Kootenays, how would you know that life here is any different than any other rural areas of Canada. I don't don't see the hell's angels around these parts and the only destructive force I do see is logging.Tell us about how the drug trade has warped society in the Kookenays Cliffy boy!
Maybe your blazing insight and staggering erudition could actually add something to this thread.
Well, let's see Jack, there is only one openly Muslim dude on here and I have given up trying to make sense of his gibberish. I have stated uncategorically that I think all religion is dangerous and has lead to death and destruction for thousands of years. I have told eanassir that but since he is only a force of one, you may have missed that. I believe the journey home is a personal one. Whenever you get two or more gathered in the name of religion or politics you see "mob mentality" start to work and one group hating all others. It is that mentality that brings us wars, bigotry and persecution.Let's not get hung up on semantics, Cliffy. You may not be an atheist (your innumerable post, otherwise could fool everybody), but you are definitely, virulently and almost hatefully anti-religion. I must admit, though, that either for political correctness, or fear of a fatwah or just for the numbers that you can offend and aggravate, you choose to be more anti-Christian than - Allah/God forbid - anti-Muslim.
Not that there is anything wrong with that!

Not really. I have met the odd grower but none that are overly rich or greedy or flaunting their money in far away places. You must travel in different circles than I. Most people I know are honest business people, with families and homes trying to get by just like everybody else.Ah but I've visited the Kookenays many times and know a number of Mayans who moved there as refugees from conflict in Guatemala-you must know a number of them too being as how you're such a social creature.
In my visits to those heavily wooded high narrow valleys I've noticed the surliness toward perceived outsiders and a certain amount of disparity in income distribution-growers are smart enough to not spend much money on property upkeep but those 50 year roofs are a dead giveaway-it's the same on Lasqueti Island BTW.
I've also met a disproportionate number of apparently shiftless Kookenay residents on holiday in Mexico-lotsa dough/lotsa booze-much more so than most other BCers.
I suppose the payoff for those backwoods growers will come when they retire and fade off into the sunset where no one is watching-know anyone like that?
