Very true Talloola, but Squire Barnes (who is much wiser than I in matters sportual), says Canucks over Nashville in five. He says Canucks defense is better than Nashville's defense.

I suppose he is right if you go through all of the defense, one thru eight, but suter and webber who
are their two top Ds, are second to none, and as I said webber has been nominated for the norris trophy
this season, don't you remember webber from team canada? he is the one who shot the puck thru the net
at the Olympics.
Nashville do not have forwards like kane, toews, sharp, hossa and the likes, and they
play a different game alltogether, not as much offense, but they check hard and are
always in the opponants face. They have a very good coach in barry trotz, he has been
with them since they were born in nashville. They have a 'top' goalie, he's about
6ft.6in, and very big, not much room around him to put the puck in the net, he is
very hard to score on, I think canucks split seasons games with them, so that doesn't
give much information as to result.

Guess everyone has a guess as to who will win, and how many games it will take, I don't like guessing
as I haven't got a clue, i'll let you know when one team wins 'four'. lol

I use to see squire barnes all the time, where is he now, i haven't seen him for years.

I just got the occasional glance at that game as I was engaged in a bowling tournament at the time and the T.V. set was probably 50' away and very little sound was available over the bowling noise.

The one Nashville game I saw this year was a textbook howling bore-the Canucks are fast enough to skate around and through that **** if they try hard enough.

If......

they took care of anaheim nicely, and towards the latter part of the season they started scoring
more goals.
they don't quite play the trap.

it isn't that easy to skate through a team who are 'all' playing defense, and pressing into your
own zone, to stifle your defense.
they are also very physical, especially jordan tootoo, have to watch for him, he is a piece of
work, and also playing better now. He has been through a drug rehab program this season, and seems
to have his life together, and playing better.

they are pretty stoked about winning the first ever round of playoffs, and believe they can move
on to win the second.

canucks must get lots of shots on goal, as renne doesn't let much by him, its like
trying to score around the pillbury dough boy. lol

those kinds of teams don't allow any flow to the game, they will never open it up,
and it is check check check, and wait for an opening.

hopefully they will be a little overwhelmed by the canucks.

Vancouver 1 - 0 in game one. Lu gets a shut-out, easily and Higgins gets the lonely goal for the 'nucks.

Who is this Pekka Renni??? Man what a great goalie - thought Thomas was good but this kid really rocks - hope the Cannucks can find his soft spot.

Vancouver outplayed and out shot the Predators - totally. Once again the refs called a bad one on Ballard - nothing wrong with the check that I saw - Tootoo went head over heels but there was nothing nasty about the hit. Frickin' refs.

This one was a lot easier on the old heart. Great game, Vancouver. GO, CANNUCKS, GO!

Yep, superstar goalie can only keep them in it so long, the rest of Nashville didn't do very much.

Agreed, JLM. The Preds looked kinda lost at times as the Cannucks kept turning them back again and again. Even their 'stars' had a difficult time what with Kesler, Burrows, Higgins, et al at them all the time. Everywhere you looked for most of the game, it was blue jerseys surrounding the white ones. Cannucks ruled on the face-offs too.

Kesler and Burrows are my new heroes.

yes, a very typical nashville style game, although they were upset because they felt they didn't play
well at all, and they are right, a little better in the third period.

nice to have the first one over, with good result.

we have seen this goalie all year, he is one of the nominees for the vezna.
he is huge.

looking forward to game 2, this was an important win, off to a good start.

In between games, alex burrows and his wife gave birth to a brand new daughter, his first child,
he attended the birth, did all of the good things new dads do, then got back to the team
and prepared for the game. didn't miss a step, and played a good game.
congrats to the burrows family.

GO CANUCKS GO

Don Cherry sure sings a different tune when the Leafs aren't around. If Toronto was Vancouver he'd be creaming his jeans with praise. Instead he complains about a boring game. Sometimes he needs to get a grip on his homer-itis.

Loved the hit by Ballard. Nuts that it was called a penalty.

I haven't paid attention to Cherry for years. Who does he rave about now that DOUGIE is no longer playing?

I don't know what's wrong with the knucklehead, it's the end of second they are up 1/0, but they should have had it put away by now.

Sigh!!!

Why does this keep happening?

There's no excuse for it- notice how their play improved 300% immediately after Nashville's goal? Hate to say it but I could see it coming for close to 10 minutes. I suppose they will pull it off in O.T. but why piss around? 8O

Exactly! I hate how the Canucks do this from time to time.

For cryin' out loud, don't hold back! Don't give the team any chance to dictate the play. Make them play our game. If we let the Preds set the pace, they'll attempt a big push at some point, evident by the 3rd period play.

Darn it! We'll get 'em next game!

I have to admit I don't feel too bad about that loss- Canucks should have been playing in regular time like they played in O.T.

well yes, in the 3rd period, the canucks worked very hard to defend their lead, and nashville
pushed back very hard to tie it up, as much as canucks didn't want a split in vancouver,
nashville did want to go back home down by 2.

canucks could have won this game many times, the puck just did not get past renne.

it's not all about what canucks should do and not do, it's about both teams and what they both
are trying to do.

its a gargantuous struggle between two teams, but the outcome is about the goalkeeping.

both goalies played outstanding, BUT that tieing goal was ugly, and the winning goal was a
very good shot that just beat luongo cleanly, not sure if renne would have stopped that or not,
it seems he has to be ganged up on before he will let one in, meaning screened shots from the
point, or a quick rebound.
Luongo played outstanding, so can't criticize him for letting 'one' goal in in 60 minutes, and that is all
either team could do in regulation.

Renne is very frustrating for a canuck fan, I felt like tieing his arms behind his back.

officials put their whistles in their pockets, and there were many infractions committed by both
teams, so I guess one can call that 'fair'?

I thought they would have learned more from the Chicago round. You have to be up by two goals in the playoffs to be fairly safe.

I don't either, JLM, feel bad about the loss, that is. Thought they played a pretty solid game all in all. Just wish they could get the job done in regular time as it makes for some late nights with all this OT. Renni is simply outstanding in goal and I sure hope the Cannucks can find a way to beat him - he is their main sticking point, IMHO. The Preds played a better game but are still beatable.

GO, CANNUCKS, GO!
