It's all official now....

VANCOUVER CANUCKS WIN THE 2010-2011 PRESIDENTS TROPHY!!!!!

With another dominant 3rd period and another 2 points for D Sedin we clinched top spot in the league. We are now 12-1 in the last 13 games and playing well heading into the playoffs. With his assist in the 3rd Daniel also hit the 100 point mark (41G/59A) and pushes closer to the Art Ross and posibly the Hart trophies. Records are being set with every game played.

GO CANUCKS GO!!!!!

we must all savour this accomplishment from our canucks. there is a list a mile long of
stats where this team is 'leading', it is amazing, and very difficult to achieve.

with the exception of the individual awards, the team has achieved everything possible
in the regular season, with four games to go.

playoffs are ahead, a brand new minny season, a tournament to see who can be the champs
of the playoffs, and hoist that stanley cup, BUT, for me it doesn't change my feelings about
the team if they win or don't, (of course I want them to win), but the point for me is that nothing
that happens in the playoffs has any affect on what they have allready done, nothing can ever
take that away, it is theirs.

on team 1040 yesterday the 'poll question' was, if the canucks don't win the stanley cup, does
what they have done in the regular season mean 'diddley' or ?
many said yes, and that is astounding to me, because those people have no respect for how hard
it was to achieve what they have to this point.

They have a great chance to go all the way, but anything can happen in playoffs, just check the
stats over the years and see, so 'good luck' to them in the playoffs, i'm sure they will show
just what they have shown us all season, a great team with lots of talent and heart.

sure hope tanev is going to be OK soon.

Only 7 of the last 24 President's Trophy winners have gone on to win the cup. However I suspect the batting average for teams finishing second or third etc is probably worse. They have as good of a chance as anyone but it won't be easy and there are many teams that could take the Cup. No matter what happens the President's Trophy is an accomplishment.

There are a few teams who have not had a season near as good as canucks, BUT, they have become
stronger and more consistent toward the latter part of the season, SO, any of those teams who
have peaked at the right time, and don't have serious injury problems, have just as much chance
to win the playoffs as any other top team, such as the canucks, but the canucks do have that
home ice advantage all thru the playoffs.

goalkeeping is key, and canucks have two excellent goalies, so doesn't matter to them which one has to play, which
is much different than most teams, (just check detroit's game last night, where they had to use two
different goalies, than usual), lost 10-3 to St. Louis.

When Dowdy hit daniel tonight, as he was shooting to score, I was very worried immediately, the hit was
blindside, (not head), but he left his feet, and the hit was crunching, but up popped daniel, no worse
for the wear, BUT I have to admit I am a little nervous now coming to the end of the season, hoping that
we don't lose anyone, especially the twins, kesler and many others who play a key part to the success
of the team.

Interesting that LA didn't get any shots on goal in the 3rd period.

thats right, just shows us 'again' how canucks can ramp up their game in the 3rd.

l.a. have lost their two top scorers for the season, so they definitely played a very defense oriented
game, lots of close checking, but the game was also very fast, and chippy at times as well, and
canucks can play any type of game they need, for whatever particular team they are playing.

canucks have won quite a few games this seasn by playing 30 great minutes of hockey, and totally
overwhelming the opposition in that 30 minutes, and the other 30 minutes have been ho hum, and
seems like they aren't really totally into the game, and perhaps they weren't, but it seems they
have so much confidence in themselves that they know their best is yet to come, as the game goes on.

I can see great energy in this team as the season comes to a close, they knew philly had lost tonight,
so they came out to grasp that pesidents cup, and now that they have done that, they can look a bit
ahead, toward the playoffs, while they finish off the regular season, (although vineault would never
agree or admit to ever doing that.) lol

You grew up with the same old saying I did, Talloola............."It matters not if you win or lose it's how you play the game"- Too many of these meathead coaches and parents in junior hockey today never heard that one I guess.

For a lot of fans it will be a crushing disappointment if the Canucks don't win the Stanley Cup. This year's Canucks
will be the best team Vancouver has ever sent to the play-offs. On paper they have the best record in the NHL. If
the Canucks can avoid injuries to their key players they will be hard to beat. As the hit on Tanev last night shows,
there are still a few goons in the NHL. I hope the penalty will be more than just that five minute major.

thats right juan, it is an old saying, and may sound kind of stale to many, but it is true.

Fantastic achievement for the team, tallola. I am so happy for the Cannucks and their fans - this is a real accomplishment for them. The Cannucks were just fabulous this year and they deserve all the kudos coming their way. Look forward to seeing them in the play-offs and possibly coming home with the Cup. Go, Cannucks, Go.

I kind of think it is MORE of an accomplishment than winning the Stanley. To win the President's Trophy means beating every team in the league, whereas you only have to beat four teams to win the Stanley Cup.

This isn't a correction to you JLM, but just a little while ago on team 1040, as we were driving, they
informed us that it is the presedents' cup, plural, and not the president's cup,as it was invented by all of the presidents of the
NHL back in the 80s sometime, forget exactly what year, so just a little trivia for what it's
worth, I would never have thought of it, and I probably will never think about it again. lol

Yes, I think it is harder to achieve too, but not nearly as admired as the stanley cup winner, as
most people seem to jump right over all of the league achievements, as though they mean nothing,
and they focus on the stanley cup winner, and honour that team as the best team for that season,
well, they are the play off winners, but the best team for the season is the presidents' cup winner,
as the season league games does not include the playoffs.

The playoffs are like a new mini season on its own, with a new winner and a new cup, it is very
exciting too.

I just got to thinking (actually my bro-in-law brought it up) CAnucks have 3 games after tonight. For the next two I think the coach should rest the top two lines and get lines 3 and 4 out there more to get their legs in a little better shape for the playoffs and then for game against Calgary get the top guns playing regular shifts again. What do you think Talloola? I'm thinking the team may be a little tired tonight after the long winning steak on the road and could use a couple of days rest.

The Canucks lapsed back into being the Canucks tonight. I'm sure I saw Petri Skriko and Tony Tanti out there.

You forgot Ivan Hilinka.

It was a very dismal effort tonight. The whole team looked to be asleep, like they thought it was not a bunch of NHL caliber player on the other team. I guess a bit of a let down after clinching the Presidents' Cup should have been expected. Hopefully this will give them a bit of a wake-up that there are no easy games in this league and they have to bring it every night.

Good news though that Samuelson should be back for Minnesota and Edler should be back for the playoffs.

sorry JLM don't like that plan. Vineault needs to sort out his 3rd and 4th lines (as he said he would),
according to how edler and others are feeling, but apart from that, I don't like the idea of changing
anything, the players had a 'bummer' tonight, raymond and schneider played well, but the rest of the
team were out to lunch.

Right back to normal next game, and keep it going, no layoffs, and no slacking off, that only leads
to injuries on the ice.

Focus was totally lost tonight, and edmonton were the opposite, as they were playing the top team and
came to the 'top' of their focus and desire to 'show up', and not be embarrassed, and they succeeded
in doing that.

These kind of games will happen from time to time, and I wouldnt dwell on it at all,
move on, and play the next one, just like they did all year.

The one detail I did think about is daniel's point total, don't think he should sit
on his number as it is, he needs to raise it a little to hang on to the lead.

OK - You're the boss  P.S. actually we got that idea right after the L.A. game, not even thinking anything like this fiasco happening.
