If memory serves, Greyhound is subsidized by taxpayers to cover some of the not-so-busy-routes. The problem with privatization is that nobody wants to deliver mail to Champion Alberta or Minto New Brunswick. Unfortunately, Canada is a large country with a low population density and the demand for postal service is being eroded away with newer technology. I doubt any decent company would be interested in buying Canada Post.

Don't know about the big cities but in most places you have to pay extra to have it delivered to the door. In our area, there is no door to door with Greyhound. There is with Purolator.

With Greyhound you have to pick up and send from the depot. I know we've used the service a lot.

This is what you posted not Canada Post private retail outlet.

My comments were:
“Yes, I work at a Canada Post RETAIL OUTLET...
Canada Post RETAIL OUTLET are in stores. and it is still a 'real' post office.
Canada Post sets the prices, all post offices (retail and your ‘real’ ones)…..
Business owners can not change prices.
And we also have more ‘higher ups’ we have to answer to, such as Canada Post Business managers and the people who own the stores (drugstores or otherwise) where we are located.
…..at a retail outlet, make more than minimum wage.
As far as privatization meaning a cut in services… all post offices (retail and your ‘real’ ones) sell the same products and services.
…..customers come to us because they don’t like how they’re treated and/or spoken to by clerks at your ‘real’ post offices.”

Do you get it yet?

As far as your comments:
“Some private post offices do”
“Private post office employees don’t make much over the minimum wage”
In a private post office the retail clerks just are not held responsible as in a real post office..”
Also in the private post office the concept of Security of the Mail is just not understood and that why they do not get paid well “

I repeat..
Canada Post sets the prices… Business owners can not change prices.
Minimum wage (or less) … you have no idea.. it is the decision of the store owners to decide what they pay.
We also have more ‘higher ups’ we have to answer to, such as Canada Post Business managers and the people who own the stores (drugstores or otherwise) where we are located. So if we screw up, we get fired.
As far as security of the mail.. we know the concept very well, do you not get that if we screw up
We get fired.

Post offices/retail outlets in Canada are no different other than whom the clerks are paid by.
We’ve all heard these rumours, our RBM’s shake their heads and wonder where (you) some people come up with this crap.

Maybe you need to get some true information rather than listening to rumours and spouting garbage..

I don't understand it either. Are you confusing retail postal outlets in stores with outfits like mailboxes etc? They are not retail postal outlets and can charge whatever they want. OUr local store is a Canada Post outlet and all prices are the same as in town at the post office except the employees don't make such excessive wages and benefits.

Sorry it is a qualifying question that is code and known only to people that actually work on a Canada Post retail counter.
