I am new to Canada (from texas) and was curious if I need anything special on my rain gutters to protect from all the ice and snow. In texas I used a great company (which has been removed as the link can be considered spam) they had a great warranty and did great work does anyone know of any large Canadian companies that have done good work for them and back up their work with a warranty. Thanks for any help.

Yep, I agree, you really don't need to do anything except maybe to keep it clean.

On rare occasions some people might install some ice rakes above a walk way area to prevent a dump of snow sliding down the roof and falling on a person on the walkway. This is often done a lot on commercial bldgs in particular where they have steel roofs.

I am installing a new roof this summer. Due to the ice damming - melt freeze etc I am also installing heated cable - 3 ft up from the eaves, and the overhang all around the perimeter of the roof, as i have a 2 story, thru the gutters as well and will have a trail running down from the venting to the gutters-
These are readily available and can be easily installed.
You could put those plastic leaf catchers, but in my opinion a good cleaning with a hose does the trick They have a foam product on the market that you can install in your gutters - then when you think about it, hard to clean - holds dirt - then in winter what do you do?

We installed leaf guard gutters. Quite expensive but because of the design leaves simply wash over the edge. Also smart enough to live where it only snows about 2 years out of 5.
