2. Why is it that they hold the meetings in places like Cancun, Bali, Rio etc. Why not hold the meetings in places like Hoboken, NJ, Liberty City, FL, Buffalo, NY? The next one will be in a Lisbon, Portugal, another beautiful place.

The Host country can hold the meeting wherever they like.

People with causes really like to protest with other people's money, don't they. (dang I just defined a liberal).

I know, I have been to some (not for global warming issues), we hold a meeting for a few hours then out to sightsee. :)

Who owns the host countries' money? Carbonheads or living breathing people?

Did you watch this week's Nature of Things yet?

I don't even know what that means, but I don't think it meshes well with Rhodes scholar.

It means that people will base their beliefs in credibility on signals they receive when they are not in a position to judge credibility themselves.

In your case, you don't know the science, you simply trust that this Rhodes Scholar does. So, that's a shallow metric.

I doubt very much that you go to your mechanic to diagnose your cardiovascular health just because he had a heart attack. That would also be a shallow metric. A deep quality metric would be visiting a cardiologist.

Rex Murphy doesn't have any tacit knowledge of climate science, he has opinions. He doesn't know science, he doesn't practice science, but he's still going to confidently proclaim the scientists are wrong. Oh, but he's a Rhodes Scholar, who studied...well he didn't actually receive a degree from Oxford!

Shallow.

Not at all! I doubt Rex knows a whole lot more about the science than I do.......which is practically nothing.

I know enough about human nature to laugh at idiots that fly jets and engage in mass consumption to attend conferences to set unrealistic goals to solve a problem that may, or may not be a result of human activity............and to laugh at the hypocrisy of those fat cats of consumption telling the rest of us we need to cut back.

Especially when the nothing that will be achieved could have been done as easily by conference calls........

I also know enough to be extremely doubtful of anything that becomes gospel......science that supresses dissenting opinion is NOT science...it is something else altogether, and it smells bad.

As for Rex being a Rhodes scholar.....I believe his discipline was English literature, not the study of science, but the study of mankind in all its foibles, conceit and foolishness.....in that he is hardly a shallow metric.

You've obviously never been on a conference call with people in different offices, in different countries, if you think that it is easier than face to face meetings.

No I haven't....my one conference call was as union safety officer at Brinks, where I lost it and started yelling at a management guy....not a great success. :)

But I know hypocrisy when I see it........

It's not easy at all. Different time zones, different languages/dialects/accents, and very little in other forms of communication which are available in face to face meetings.

But I know hypocrisy when I see it........

I wonder what Rex thinks of these wikileak documents?

This is precisely what I've tried to say, many times. It's the partisan political view of the blind green army that they are right and not to be questioned. They'll keep going though because science is their political fallback not a reality. Only their science is legit.
