What a great thread that I apparently missed out on while I was gone. Last year, a college professor circulated a, for the most part factual, email that listed 90 accomplishments of Barack Obama in his first six months in office. Some of the listed items are repetitive; others are trivial; while still others are completely relative (the prof may consider these to be good, but others would consider them bad). Here's the list...

1. Ordered all federal agencies to undertake a study and make recommendations for ways to cut spending

2. Ordered a review of all federal operations to identify and cut wasteful spending and practices

3. Instituted enforcement for equal pay for women

4. Beginning the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq

5. Families of fallen soldiers have expenses covered to be on hand when the body arrives at Dover AFB

6. Ended media blackout on war casualties; reporting full information

7. Ended media blackout on covering the return of fallen soldiers to Dover AFB; the media is now permitted to do so pending adherence to respectful rules and approval of fallen soldier’s family

No tax cuts for the rich is apparently the solution right now. Considering 'screw the military and the poor' and 'legalize marijuana for all' are not options right now, it seems to be the only significant method to pay off the $800 billion economic stimulus that created 1.4 - 3.3 million jobs.

Consider that 10's of billion of dollars in investments, etc people do not even know what tax rate they will pay come 2011 never mind all the other tax implications - The fact is money will sit instead of being invested. So Obama wears that one.

Well, they are two different branches of government that exist each on their own. The President doesn't have any direct power over Congress since they are supposed to be equal in power.

And you belive that one do you - Seems like he has divided his own supporters and could not pass a budget - If you cannot work with your own party how will he do with the republicans. Right - They will get the blame.

Well he had control of both houses - How did he manage not to pass a budget.

"Tonight, the Senate has joined the House of Representatives in taking an important step toward rebuilding our struggling economy," he said in a statement.

"And by making hard choices and challenging the old ways of doing business, we will cut in half the budget deficit we inherited within four years."

Senate Follows House, Passes Obama Budget Plan

That was in April 2009. So, looks like we'll either have to risk the next few years before we see any real benefits, or just give up now.

No really, separation of powers says that the President doesn't have any direct power over Congress and vice versa, regardless of party.

My opinion of The Annointed One improved somewhat after he admitted - in spite of his former pie-in-the-sky rambling about "shovel ready projects" - that really there is no such thing as a shovel ready project.

Here are President Obama's ratings, by a variety of different polling organizations:

RealClearPolitics - Election Other - President Obama Job Approval

It has been said elsewhere that presidential approval/disapproval ratings did not look any better for former presidents Carter, Reagan, Clinton and Bush in corresponding periods in their presidency.

What is NOT mentioned, but should be, that the black votes/opinions of previous presidents were not ever nearly as blind as it is today for President Obama. Recent polls show that 95% of African-Americans approve of Obama, and presumably would, regardless, based strictly on skin pigmentation.

And they call the Tea Party racist!!

The black loyalty to Obama is definately based on race but given the history in the US I don't blame them for it and I'm sure it's not based on hatred for whites.

Tea party wise...not quite as sure it's not based on hate because of race.

Difficult to see many blacks involved.

Avro, come on, get real!!! Slavery has been abolished almost a century and a half ago. The civil Rights Act has been in effect for almost half a century. There have been African-American Secretaries of State and Defence (under those horrible Republicans), 80% of the NBA and the NFL are blacks, blacks in high offices and positions where they could never be without affirmative action, pretty much all court cases involving a black person is resolved in favour of that person, there is a black Attorney Greneral who refuse to prosecute Black Panthers for obvious voter intimidation, and let us not forget that the large majority of whites - along with the inevitable 95+ percent of blacks - who voted Obama into the highest office in the world.

What more do you and blacks want? The elimination of the white race? The total surrender of white wealth to the inner city free-loaders? You may try that but even if he entire wealth of the white world was evenly distributed, in ten or fewer years those who were poor would be poor again and those were rich would be rich.

How about stopping the blame game? How about listening to people like Bill Cosby, Justice Clerance Thomas, Condolleezza Rice, Thomas Sewell or Armstrong Williams, rather than poverty pimps and misery merchants like Jesse Jackson (both Sr and Jr), Al Sharpton, Ben Jealous (the most appropriate name in politics, ever) or Joe Madison? How about considering the word and its implications of "RESPONSIBILITY" rather than rights?

How about admitting that there are just as many racists (proportionally) among blacks as there are among whites? How about stopping to refer racism at the drop of the hat? How about fair plaY?

Now, the Tea Party in particular and the Republican Party in general: You decry the appearent abscence of black? If you were black, would you dare to show up somewhere where you find your political soul-mates, but knowing that once you go back to your community, or the fact that you were sympathetic to anything conservative you would be labelled as Uncle Tom, house Ni66er or worse?

Or how about your children who are trying to excel in school being denigrated and reviled as "acting and speaking WHITE"? Would you go there? The crowd shots of Tea Party showing just a few black faces would be explained that way.

But no matter how few black faces you see at a Tea Party gathering, it still outnumbers the white faces you see at a NAAAACP gathering.

Avro, I have seen how the liberals and the liberal media treated Condy Rice, Clerance Thomas, Ken Blackwell, Walter Williams, Michael Steele, Michelle Malkin, Thomas Sowell and a whole host of others whose skin colour was not white. It is a given that if there were similar opinions about Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Hussain and Michelle Obama or Danny Glover the Hell would break loose and there would be non-ceasing and non-stopping cries of racism.

The newest poll I could find that shows that figure is May 2009. Can you post this 'recent poll' that you found?

I found mine on Rasmussen:

mentalfloss, I do not quote Rassmussen any more, because I have been told several times by uninformed miscreants that Rasmussen is a water carrier for the Republican Party. So, to avoid any confrontation, even though I know that Rasmussen is the most relible, objective and accurate polling firm, I don't bother to change the unchangable idiots.

Here is a collection of recent polls:
