Should Canada Send Her Athletes to the Commonwealth Games?

I thought men got over the idea of being beautiful in the 1700s, but perhaps it was later ... that poofy thing from the Baroque period.

All things being equal, Canada has the added advantage of being a beautiful country. That is something that in this century should be exclusively reserved for women.

Therefore, Canada is female.

I'm beautiful. Men can be beautiful now, again. When women gained equality so did men. when feminism speared it's high heels through the heart of chivalry, we gained the right to be seen as beautiful again. Don't blame us. It's your own fault, ladies. lol

What's ironic is that by refusing to use a customary norm like her for a country, or even a ship, you're legitimizing the feminist movement that disputes words like manhole covers and policemen.

I don't know how that legitimizes them. This is the same feminist movement that essentially died 25 years ago and is just filled with crack pots now that think being a sex object is "independent" and that they deserve affirmative action with everything and special treatment, but heaven forbid a man get custody. My god, the world would end. They can go ahead and dispute words all they want. That's not why they're irrelevant.

Yes, I saw this on CBC too - good idea to put up the pic's. It's an unfortunate and rather sad situation for India, most of whom's regular folks are probably very embarrassed by it and helpless to do anything about it against the contractors. But unless something very drastic is done very quickly by the Commonwealth Games organization itself, who should have intervened and done whatever necessary to ensure things were helped along when it became obvious there were problems many months ago - not now, then I don't think our athletes should go.

The ultimate blame for the lack of oversight and dilligence in readying things properly and on time falls on the overpaid fat-cats who sit on the Commonwealth Games Board. They should be apologizing to the heartbroken young athletes who have worked so hard to be competitors at these Games and now probably will have to miss their chance.

I say that disregarding the usual racist, anti-immigrant, idiotic anti-feminist twaddle & racial spaceship toting "only the good people" (who gets to pick, Omicron? Faugh!) lunacies this topic has, as usual sadly, brought out the woodwork. ):

Canadians report Delhi athletes village progress

With the concerns over the athletes' village, uncompleted venues, the collapse of the pedestrian bridge being built for the games, the partial collapse of the roof at the weightlifting venue, and security, should Canadian athletes compete?

I haven't really been following this story, but I gather the kafuffle is mainly over the accommodations not being up to snuff. I could see the concern if they didn't have a track to run on or a pool to swim in. There's probably guys on Vancouver's East side who would think they are in the Waldorf Astoria. :lol:

The concerns relate to health and safety. The wiring hasn't been done properly, plumbing is messed up, people have used the building as a huge toilet, dengue fever is a real concern due to standing water at the venue, and there are structural integrity concerns evidence by the collapsed pedestrian bridge. What if the bridge had collapsed when it was filled with people after the start of the games? It was just good fortune it collapsed earlier. These are all serious concerns that should not be overlooked.

There are probably drugged out hookers and homeless people that squat in similarly unfit buildings, but that doesn't the India Olympic Village the place meets normal health and safety standards.

Heck freaking no! There is no way that they would be able to create a safe and clean environment for the athletes by October 3rd. I imagine that most of the countries will end up deciding to stay at home rather than risk the health/lives of the athletes.

Some of the Canadian group is arriving in India today, with the rest to follow in the next couple of days. Rumour is that the site has been mostly cleaned up, the standing water has been mostly drained, and things are looking up.

Well absolutely, they are probably a lot more at risk engaging their sports. It's a media event and of course, the more dramatical they can make it the more newspapers they sell. What does one have to do these days to be "safe"? Pack around a gallon of lysol? :smile:

These games are simply unimportant to world athletics.. The athletes who go won't do much after, they are an extension of the Canada and BC/NS/Ont games which encourage participation and fun, winning is secondary. And risk getting a tropical disease there?

These games are unimportant to Canadians becuase we win in hockey and other sports in the Olympics. Not even in Britain did the CW games get any media ink in the weeks before. We don't need no cater to India's delusions of being a great power in the world. Let the empire die.

I just got to thinking, how Pakistan right now would probably just love to trade all their problems for India's "tempest in a teapot". I just can't seem to get my mind around a cockroach in an athlete's bed being a Global problem...............not that I have anything against athletes (apart from their whining) :lol:

India kills me. They have learned no lessons.

China had most of their venues ready for the 2008 Olympic games by 2004, many venues ready even before Greece was ready in 2004. There were many jokes how China was able to do this because they have so many people. ha ha ha.

India has simply blown this one and to send our athletes to a place where bridges fall down and filth is everywhere is beyond me.

India should learn from Youtube, there you don't share channels. You make your own and work it. The CW is England's baby and it should be tossed back to them.

The world didn't care about the CW games and now India is getting negative publicity by the truckload because of it. India has dropped a few notches in the world power rankings as a result.

India should do something serious like dropping out of the CW entirely and focus on its own neighbourhood. To show the world it's embarking on a new path to repair its tattered reputation.

I wonder what will happen next? With the amount of corners being cut to make it look safer, I wonder if it is just a matter of time before an athlete is killed due to this?
