Yep, I know what you mean about Victoria, Talloola, all kinds of restaurants in the area between Government St. up to Quadra and along Yates and Fort ST. I remember as a teenager restaurants like Woolworths, Kresge's and the Metropolian (near Yates and Douglas) But I'm digressing 50 years. At Fort and Quadra there was a very popular restaurant called Johnnie's started by a Greek Fellow can't recall his name but he'd be long dead now. Of course another favourite spot in Victoria is Beacon Hill Park, a 10 minute walk from down town.
beacon hill park is beautiful, I've walked there a few times, as the hotel we stay in when we visit is very
close to the entrance to the park.
yeah, things have changed a lot in 50 years, but the atmosphere hasn't changed much, it's still a very
interesting and pretty city. The bay is in a mall now, and that old big store that use to be the bay, or
maybe it was eatons, can't remember, has been closed down for years.
I remember my mother taking me into that old bay store when I was 10 years old for a hair cut, and I pouted
all day because my long braids were gone, and I had this silly little bob that looked goofy.
the old 15cent stores, woolworths, kresges and the metropolitan, don't know if they exist any more, our
favourite shopping destinations in new westminster when I was a little girl.
Everyone has their opinion Talloola. I don't like Victoria as a place to live and we don't even go there for shopping when we can get all we need right here in Nanaimo. I find the most un-friendly city to live in is Courtenay but you live there and feel just the opposite. Nanaimo is a great place and they are working albeit slowly, on the downtown core so it is getting better. There are some really neat shops down there depending on what you are looking for.
To the person wondering about Victoria - go for it. This whole Island is a paradise to live on. Weather is great for pretty much the whole year and there are numerous places to explore. Nearly everywhere you go you get to view ocean and more ocean. You will love it. I would never miss out on such a great opportunity.
BTW Talloola, Romeo's has just changed hands and is now Milano's. I haven't been there yet but I've heard it's really nice. You might want to give it a try - just a block away from White Spot.
yeah, you ran that b.s. by me long ago about courtenay being an unfriendly place to live, that is
a tacky thing to say, and it would be if you said it about any other place as well, all cities have
a few unfriendlies, but the majority are good people, and courtenay is no different, give me a break, your statement says much more about 'you' as the
unfriendly one than it does, anyone else.
Ok guy's you have it. I got called today and got the job and here we go Victoria we are coming in first week of September. Royal Jubilee Hospital.
The next plan will be tough, temporary accomodation. We are selling our house here and not sure how long it will go but will definitely go alone for the time being till everything is setup.
Thanks guys it makes my life easier to decide upon reading all your comment first hand from the islanders.
Cheers and thank again.
congratulations, royal jubilee is a great hospital, my husband had a heart operations there 1 1/2 yrs
ago, and they treated us very well, and he is doing just fine. dr. bozonovski (dr. boz.), you'll
get familiar with that name. They were doing huge additions there when we were there, should be
finished now, and must look great.
you'll love victoria, you'll love the island.
