Each and every one of the service men and women going to Iraq and/or Afghanistan are volunteers.

Unlike Vietnam, where I served, when almost 40 percent of the soldiers were draftees.

Frankly, I would rather see a system where nobody gets government subsidized college, government subsidized home loans, nobody gets to vote, unless they have done a period of Federal Service.

No person can hold any elective office unless they have done at least one period of MILITARY service. No member of the military can vote in any election while they are serving however, only after discharge.

NOTE: Note Federal Service does NOT necessarily mean military service! However, if one volunteers for Federal Service (and it would be 100% volunteer), they can be assigned to Military Service, or to any other service, depending on the needs of the country.

Those that do serve in Military Service, and complete a term (or their next of kin if they die on active duty or as a result of that service) should be granted a full ride scholarship to any College or University that they can qualify for, to obtain as high a degree as they are capable of earning. Tuition, books, expenses and living expenses to any and all that complete a set period of military service.

Everyone else that does a term of Federal Service may utilize government subsidies (as can all military veterans) and they earn the right to vote.

The one advantage of this system is that 100% of the voters would be people that have demonstrated that they put the needs of the country first. Those that serve as elected officials would all have placed their life in service to that country, before holding office.

This is NOT my idea alone. Read the book "Starship Troopers" by Robert Anson Heinlein for details.

Actually, the basics of the system in Heinlein's book was lifted direct from Switzerland at the time.

That is why women there did not get the vote until the 1970s.........and why you had to qualify with your rifle before you cast your ballot.

Yeah....you might look at it that way......but then again, Switzerland has not been in an armed conflict in 200 years.

Name me another nation that can say the same.

Peace Through Superior Firepower.

Well...... Canada isn't Switzerland, and like the u.s., can't seem to keep from exporting death.

There is just ONE (1) thing JBeee and her pathetic soul-mates must remember:

If it wasn't for the heroes, who paid the ultimate sacrifice, they so hate and despise, JBeee and the rest of ungrateful yahooes would not have platform to spew their vicious hatred.

"Where the hell have you been?"

All my life I have been standing up for myself, rather than relying on thugs to do my talking for me, like a spineless unionist that you are.

Unfortunately, he is correct.......

We have built free, prosperous, democratic societies on the backs of the rebels that created them, and the soldiers that defended them.

Had the philosophy of the divine right of kings prevailed, or had we lost our determination to fight against fascism or communism in the last century........JBee, US Had It Coming, et al would be up against the nearest wall......

Or if we lose the newest clash of civilizations.........

Ya know....if any of that was true and not a pile of bullsh*t you might win me over. My Grandfather thought all of the above. Fought in WWI and lost his brother there. The "war to end all wars", fighting for freedom and the end of opression. What a f*cking joke! WWII comes along...then Korea...Vietnam.....etc...etc....etc..... the never ending thirst for blood and lust for death.

Wars and rumours of wars......

My uncle died in World War II, a great uncle in WWI....died of TB after being gassed. My American cousin :) served as a gunner on a Huey slick in Vietnam...

Vietnam was foolish, however, if you doubt the value of the Korean War, just compare the North and the South of that peninsula.........

There will always be war.

We just have to be determined our cause is worthwhile, and if so, that our side wins.

petros, decent people would rather die than be a communist union thug.

and there's a difference between being willing to die for your convictions, and being willing to kill another to further your convictions.

If you are not willing to kill someone to defend your country, you have absolutely no right to do anything with that country other than exist.

Those that claim that war never solves anything should go talk to the Carthaginians, or to the Japanese, or the Germans. War solves many problems, and it always has.

Those that claim that war serves no purpose are idealistic idiots.

Oh, war does serve a purpose. I personally do not see something that has murder as a purpose as being a good thing.

I'd also tell you what I think of your kind but I don't feel like getting a time out right now.
