Hmmm... I'm sure 40-hour work-weeks are legal in the US, no? What, doesn't apply in prison? Make 'em work.

Yep, at $10 an hour until everyone he bilked is paid off.:lol::lol:

By the way, what is the minimum wage there?

Of course I'm all for inmates being protected by labour laws and such and ought to be paid at least minimum wage.

But then of course they have to pay room and borad;-)

Oh, and security too.

And by the way, JLM, I think it would only be fair to release him as soon as they're all paid off.

$7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009. Overtime pay at a rate not less than one and one-half times the regular rate of pay is required after 40 hours of work in a workweek.
He'd have to do quite a bit of O.T. for an early release.:lol:

Hmm - I don't think inmates get paid anything like that in Canada. Not in BC anyway. Not only that - they cannot be forced to work either. If they want to just lay around all day at Club Fed - they can do so. Crappy system. They should have to work. Far too much liberty for incarcerated people.

Hi VanIsle- Machjo and I were just having a few laughs at Madoff's expense without concerning ourselves about being too accurate. If you haven't followed that case- the man bilked thousands of people out of a total of many $billions. Under no circumstances will he EVER get out of jail alive and and if he earned $thousand an hour he will never come close to paying everyone off. He's doing his time somewhere along the ATlantic seaboard. I have no figures on "jailhouse salaries", but about 20 cents an hour would be my guess..................:lol::lol: Have a nice day and a couple of laughs.

I like Arizona Sheriff Joe Arapaio's philosophy to incarceration. Pink underwear and jump suits, boloney sandwiches and no weight lifting.

Yep, and the part about them having to work in 118F degree heat doesn't hurt my feelings either...........:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Last I heard was 86 cents/hr but that was a few years back. In Canada we can't even force healthy people on the outside to work. Somehow welfare became a right.

JLM: You guys shouldn't be so hard on poor Bernie. After all he didn't do anything our government isn't doing to us.

Good point there, Taxslave. If he had just gone to the local Gov't. Agent, he very likely could have gotten a permit......................so maybe he's doing time for laziness or stupidity.................:lol::lol::lol:
