I don’t argue that people shouldn’t be able to smoke — I argue that people should not have the right to force others to inhale second-hand smoke, whereas you seem to think that they should.
Whoever said they should be forced? People can leave, walk away, keep at a comfortable distance.... the planet isn't that small. If a smoker was somewhere first, then why should you be allowed to come along and tell them to move because you don't like their smoking as if somehow you're more important?
Why does the onus of being relocated somewhere away from everybody else have to always be on the smokers? Make it illegal and then there's no excuse for not telling smokers where to go or what to do.
You can see a smoker from quite a distance.... if the smoke in their hand doesn't give them away, the puff of smoke coming from their mouths should be more then enough for you to see they're smoking..... hold your breath as you pass, or walk on the other side of the road, or put up with it.... walking past a smoker and inhaling a small bit of 2nd hand smoke isn't going to suddenly kill you or suddenly give you cancer..... anymore then some diesel truck driving by you and leaving you in a big cloud of exhaust that you'd probably inhale much more for much longer.... or you'd simply hold your breath.
The fearmongering over tobacco, while risks do exist, are greatly exaggerated.
The danger here is not to the freedom of smokers, but rather to non-smokers because of an “everyone else be damned” attitude.
Isn't that the same attitude you're giving? All the smokers be damned, it's all about you and the slim chance of your own health being somehow affected? :-?
