Big surprise there. I assume you also were wrong about Obama. You didn't think he would pass health care reform, did you? Must have given you a nasty shock.
My hope still is it will be Joan of Arc. She is a long shot (a very long shot), but one can always hope.
He did surprise me. As for Sarah Palin. I think she will just continue to make money from her day in the Sun and eventually fade away. The Republicans need a totally new make over and they are panicking now. Hopefully someone will jump to the forefront this November.
Did you read the latest? She has signed a deal with Discovery channel to make nature documentaries about Alaska.
I think she is doing the right thing. Politics is a thankless task, and her popularity is at an all time low. She is much wiser with using what remains of her popularity to make money, get richer than to chase some pipe dream of becoming the president.
She will probably continue campaigning for the candidates of her choice, but I think that will be the extent of her involvement in politics.
Definatly best for her, not many people can say they did what she did. Yes I did hear about the discovery Channel deal.

This massive spending bill will bankrupt the US for a generation. They will have less to spend on the healthcare system as their debt load consumes their taxes.
Ironically the left wing are delivering a death sentence for future quality healthcare and the right wing are vilified for proposing we live within our means.
Same thing happening here in canada. Guess we are all going to learn the hard way in another 5-10 years.
Are there any forum members who believe publically funded healthcare will be better in the US and Canada in the near or distant future?

The U.S. goverment has a couple of very good medical programs, the Department of Veterans Affairs and to a lesser degree Medicare. I would stack up the VA with any other country's health system, yes it had its problems in the past, but seems to have solved most of them. Medicare was closing it's loopholes, atleast it was until this new National Health program was passed, now who knows what will happen. Doctors are salaried in both these programs. I do have my doubts about the reasons for this so called National Healthcare program and the sincerity of those pushing for it.
Rights is proposing to live within its means? Surely you jest. When has the right ever lived within its means? For the past 30 years, whenever the right came to power (Reagan, 1st Bush, 2nd Bush, Mulroney, Mike Harris, Harper) the result ahs invariably been huge deficits and astronomical debt.
Are you seriously saying that the right in USA has suddenly had an epiphany and if it comes to power again, it will live within its means? If you believe that, I have got some prime waterfront property that you may be interested in buying. It is called Brooklyn Bridge.
And it really burns you up that USA has moved away form the free for all, Devil take the hindmost type of health care, towards a more sensible approach, doesn’t it?
Well, in case you are not aware, USA spends 16% of its GDP on health care, much more than any other country. And it delivers the poorest quality care compared to any other developed country. And if you believe that USA did not need health care reform, why, there is another piece of prime property that you may be interest in. It is called Rideau Canal.

Forgive me for saying so, but if John Deere and Caterpillar will have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars because the new law requires health coverage, then the entire board of directors of both companies should resign in shame and embarrassment for treating their employees so poorly.
I thought the cornerstone of the Republican position was that everyone in the US with a decent job already had health insurance. And now we find out that iconic employers like John Deere and Caterpillar actually treat their employees like garbage?
If I were an executive of either of those firms, I'd be hiding after an admission like that. It's disgusting.

I don’t know about USA that is their business. But in Canada we definitely need publicly funded health care. Private Health care in USA has shown how inefficient, bureaucracy ridden private system can be. USA spends more than any other country in the world on health care and it shows poorest health care indicators than any other developed country (low life expectancy, high infant mortality, high maternal mortality etc.).
If we want to destroy our health care system, the quickest way to do it will be to privatize it, let those who can afford health insurance surveys, let those who cannot afford, perish.
Only 78%, aren't you being generous towards democrats? I expected you to say that 100% of Americans don't want the system. You really cannot think of anybody wanting this health care reform, do you? Wouldn't Americans be happy under the tyranny of insurance companies? Except maybe some of those Spawns of the Devil, the liberals?
The fact is, Gallup poll taken after health care bill passed shows that people approve of the bill by a margin of 10%.
But I do hope the teabaggers campaign in November on the platform of repealing the law. I would like to see them advocate giving back to the insurance companies the right to deny coverage to children, the right to deny coverage to those with preexisting conditions, the right to buy insurance across the state lines etc. That is sure to keep democratic losses in November to a minimum.
