Nothing changes? What are you talking about? It is Armageddon, it is the end of civilization as they know it in USA. USA is about to be turned into a third world country, with people dying in the street for lack fo health care.

At least so say the conservatives.

Awww..look at you two.

So cozy.

Children up to 26?
I kind of chuckled when I saw that but then I thought of our son when he was at university getting his masters degree. We were able to tack him onto our plan for a couple years.

This is not a laughing matter juan, it can really happen. Our son turned 26 in 2009. He is still dependent upon us for everything, we are paying his way through medical school. We have included him on our car insurance.

Once he starts his residency in July and starts earning money, he will be independent. However, he is currently dependent upon us. If we had been living in USA, we would have included him on our medical insurance policy, if such an option had been available.

Nor is it something we have to worry about. Our son and his wife bought a home in Vancouver and they paid off the mortgage in under eight years. I wish we had been as dedicated as they have been. It's great to be mortgage free while fairly young.

"observe the difference. Tom Foley could not get the House to pass a health care bill, even with big Democratic majority"

I do not recall if health care reform was a major legislative agenda for him. He had some difficulties with his state's demand for term limits and some problems with NRA. By contrast, health care was a major priority for Pelosi. Perhaps that's the big difference.

When we got our mortgage, I knew our spending habits, and I knew that we will be able to save substantial portion of our earnings. So I took a totally open mortgage, even though it cost me ½ % more. But the mortgage was totally open; I could pay off the entire mortgage the day after I got it, if I wanted, no penalties.

I also made a substantial down payment, much more than what was required and amortized the mortgage over 10 years, rather than usual 25 or 30 years. The advantage here was that with a 10 year mortgage, I was paying back significant amount of capital from the very first payment. With a 25 year mortgage, you hardly pay back any capital during the first three years. For the first three years you mostly pay back interest, very little capital.

The next three years I dedicated myself totally to paying off the mortgage (my wife leaves all the financial decisions to me). If I got pay raise, I increased the monthly installment. If I got a bonus, I made a lumpsome payment.

At the end of three years I was laid off. I used my severance package to pay off the mortgage in full. We had paid off the mortgage three and a half years after we got it. We were mortgage free at the age of 39. Then I was free to invest. I have been investing in the stock market for the past 15 or 16 years.

Mind you, if your son bought a house in Vancouver, he must have had a big mortgage. The prices in Vancouver are astronomical. We didn't have a big mortgage, I put 50% down payment and took 50% mortgage. So your son's achievement was bigger than mine.

"According to Harvard University.
Well there you go"

Yup. A lot better than using the Fox network as a source for "truth".

Not really, FOX is far right most of the time and Harvard is far left. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

Well yes. But health care reform was a major agenda for Clinton. I would think Foley would also make it his big agenda. And problems with NRA? So what? He lost the next election anyway. Wouldn't it have been better to have lost because he passed the health care bill, rather than lose after he didn't pass one?

What was needed was a few politicians who had the guts to vote for the bill, even if it may mean defeat in the next election. Obama was lucky to find at least a few such politicians. To Clinton's misfortune, there were very few of those in 1993. And it didn't help them anyway, democrats lost big in the next election.

Conservatives regard anybody who disagrees with them as being far left. So it doesn’t surprise me that you regard Harvard as far left. You probably regard CNN, New York Times, Washington Post etc. also as being on the far left, FOX being the only sensible news channel.

Harvard is neither left nor right. It is an educational institution and as such has very high reputation, very high standards. Now may be conservatives don’t like to go to Harvard, they probably prefer Jimmy Swaggart Baptist College (there really is such a college) or the Liberty University (belonging to Jerry Falwell).

However, Harvard has very high standards of admission, and it is very difficult to get into Harvard (not that a conservative would know this, he wouldn’t want to get in anyway, it is a far left propaganda machine after all). Harvard has stellar international reputation; it is highly regarded in most sciences and liberal arts subjects.

Harvard and FOX is like comparing a majestic elephant to a tiny poodle. Sure, the poodle (FOX) can bark loudly but nobody takes it seriously. It is only conservative Republicans, the teabaggers who take FOX seriously, regard everything they hear on FOX as the Gospel truth. Most of the rest of the world takes Harvard seriously.

Baloney. Harvard has been given millions by the right wing Pentagon. Faux has never written or reported a word of truth.

Now now, Goober. You know perfectly well that anybody to the left of FOX news is far left. So is anybody to the left of Joan of Arc. As to Harvard, why, that is a regular hotbed of Communism. They train regular Maos, Pol Pots and Stalins in Harvard.

Only Jimmy Swaggart Baptist College and Liberty University train patriotic Americans.

Why was I to the left of you ... not to mention a few others who bear your right wing label?

"Harvard is neither left nor right."

You are correct when you say that conservatives regard anyone who dares to disagree with them as being "far left". They also believe that Fox is God's network and that it reports the truth when its endless lies have been reported hundreds of times. The fact remains whether any right wingers likes it or not is that Harvard has taken multiples of millions from right wingers in the Pentagon. Because of that money it has allowed ROTC back on campus and promoted the discriminatory don't-ask-don't-tell policy.
