Yeah Xanax. It will really help you with the boogieman/paranoia complex. Turn off the TV, go shovel the walk and say hi to the neighbours.

HAHAHAHA! This coming from a guy who's previous posts lack any type of common sense or thought on the subject. Hey, next time your wife goes to the loonie bin, she should bring you back to your room there. Your roomates probably miss you.

You don't have to kill someone in the act of self defending yourself.

When it comes down to it, you really don't have time to consider what type of damage to do to the individual. You just react and do the deed, and if the end result is a bruised cheek or even death of your attacker, then that's the way it rolls.

I just came across this joke on the internet and I thought it would be appropriate to post it here:

why do we kill people who kill people to show people killing people is
wrong?

Sure go ahead add the death penalty of hanging and then we'll be treated like Iran, the world will impose sanctions on us.

Hey, I like riddles! Let's see...well, first of all, we don't kill people who kill people, but if we did...

We kill people who kill people to show people that killing people is wrong and if we didn't kill them, they might go out and kill again, thus making the 2 wrongs (the number of killings) not right, but in fact, twice as wrong. Thus, by killing them to prevent further killings, the idea would be to stop the cycle of killing by killing. Kind of like an antidote or a vaccine, except that it's 100% effective.

I don’t see anybody imposing sanctions on us because of death penalty. USA has death penalty; nobody has imposed sanctions on them.

Death penalty is a barbaric holdover from the dark ages; it is the Old Testament justice, and eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. It solves nothing, if does not reduce crime. All it does is that it satisfies the craving for vengeance, craving for blood. It satisfied the bloodlust, nothing more. That is why it is wrong, and hopefully will never be reintroduced here in Canada.

Cluuuuuue-less huh? Well, let us try again. Bring back hanging in Canada and watch our murder rate plummet down to that in USA, watch it plummet from less than 2 to more than 4 (per 100,000).

Feel better now?

HOW does the death penalty increase the murder rate?

HOW does the death penalty increase the murder rate?

That is easy, JLM. There is empirical evidence for it. USA is the only developed country to have death penalty (with the exception of Japan) and it has the highest murder rate than any developed country.

Even within USA, the states which have death penalty have higher murder rates than states without death penalty.

So there is plenty of empirical evidence to think that death penalty contributes to murder rate. Now, is there any reason to link the two? There most certainly is. Death penalty cheapens the value of life; it coarsens the society towards life. If government itself kills its citizens, that tells the people that life is not all that valuable.

If something is declared as having a low value by the government, it is logical, reasonable to suppose that people will imitate the government.

So there is empirical and logical evidence to tell us that death penalty may indeed lead to increase in crime rate.

It's time to bring back the death penalty because it keeps the crime rate lower and citizens safer

I've already made a post on this thread, but I would just like to point out that your post is a completely unproven assertion. In fact if crime statistics are studied it would seem that the opposite is true.
