I suppose like most countries the U.S. probably has its share of cheap skates but also I bet has a good share of generous people. I'd rather see a person donate a dollar than withhold it because he thinks its unworthy and he feels ashamed.

What about New Orleans....did some other country contribute more aid and $$$ &
such to that disaster than the Americans?

The point is we don't know how much aid was dispatched to New Orleans or where it went if you investigate the contractors and subcontractors of Fema you'll see a field day of corruption. Cubans offered aid immeadiatly, it was refused not replaced just refused.

Too bad Cuba cant have those doctors helping their own people.
They have nothing to be proud of when it comes to treating their own citizens in the hospitals the tourists dont see and I have plenty of pictures of said hospitals.

Nothing to be proud of at all.
The locals dont get the same treatment as the tourists but dont take my word for it,check it out yourself. These are the hospitals the locals have to go to.

LOL, according to bush in his press conference today, the states did a great job following both the tsunami and katrina. What an idiot. They dropped the ball with New Orleans.

Cuba had 400 doctors in Hati during the earthquake and sent thirty more immeadiatly. Now that's real aid that was not mentioned on yankee news once that I can recall.
That is typical of the yankees. They want the world to think they are the great saviours.

I think the problem with Katrina had more to do with the head honcho of FEMA having a swelled head, although Bush should have been keeping a closer eye on the guy.

Finally, the tide seems to be slowing turning for the people in Haiti. Aid is getting through, people are getting medical attention, law and order is being restored, and miracle of miracles - people are still being found alive.

Yep, I just heard on the radio the number of missing Canadians has shrunk from about 1400 to 800 in the past 24 hours and the confirmed dead has risen to 12- I guess all things considered, fairly favourable stats.

And they are finally getting to areas outside of PAP, JLM. Just got the tail end of a news blurb about the town where our GG's dad used to live and it is outside PAP. Approx 40,000 people live there and the town sustained heavy damage.

I expect will be begin to hear more about the rural areas now.

Yes,and I took the tour of the areas that the tourists dont see and if your going to tell me that they have fine hospitals then you didnt take the same tour or spend 2 years trying to get someone a visa so they could move here.
The hospitals the locals have to go to are horrendous, maybe check out the pics in the link, thats the Cuba I saw.
Theres plenty of Cubans in Calgary that do nothing but try and get their kinfolk here.

It's similiar to Mexico, unless you get out and see how the locals live and are treated then it all looks good from the beach or your fancy hotel.

I am somewhat surprised to hear this, Kakato. Never having been there, I reply on small documentary companies whose films get shown on public networks, PBS, KNOW, SCN. I've also read a bit about the country and its politics.

I was under the impression that Cuba had a higher percentage of educated people than most countries in S America. I was also given to believe that in many areas a registered nurse lives and works in the same apartment building. Her tenants are her patients.

I've also watched numerous docs detailing the grass-roots garden projects which Cubans have initiated. They have transformed once barren lots into lush gardens providing fresh, healthy vegetables. At the time of one of the docs which is several years ago, the gardens were feeding something like 25% of the population.

The gardens provide fresh vegetables for school kids and the projects have created jobs and small businesses for people.

You saw the nice part, they dont show the poverty or poor in the brochures.
Theres a reason people risk their lives in anything that floats to get to the US.
School teacher by day, hooker by night for most young girls, you want produce and live in the poor section then it's black market.
Most Canadians brag though of how they bring extra soap and shampoo to leave behind for the poor folks who tend to their needs while vacationing in the fancy hotel, they should cruise to the poorer parts and see what it's really like,Mexico's the same if you venture out into the suburbs.

I dont do typical tourists things when in other countries,I like to rent a small motorbike and head to the places they warn you not to go.8O

Invasion and occupation means.
Estimated combined SOUTHCOM and MINUSTAH forces; 19,095*

*Excluding commitments by France (unconfirmed) and Canada (confirmed 800 troops). The US, France and Canada were "partners" in the February 29, 2004 Coup d'État.

Haiti has been under foreign military occupation since the US instigated February 2004 Coup d'Etat. The contingent of US forces under SOUTHCOM combined with those of MINUSTAH brings foreign military presence in Haiti to close to 20,000 in a country of 9 million people. In comparison in Afghanistan, prior to Obama's military surge, combined US and NATO forces were of the order of 70,000 for a population of 28 million. In other words, on a per capita basis there will be more troops in Haiti than in Afghanistan.

Recent US Military Interventions in Haiti

There have been several US sponsored military interventions in recent history. In 1994, following three years of military rule, a force of 20,000 occupation troops and "peace-keepers" was sent to Haiti. The 1994 US military intervention "was not intended to restore democracy. Quite the contrary: it was carried out to prevent a popular insurrection against the military Junta and its neoliberal cohorts." (Michel Chossudovsky, The Destabilization of Haiti, Global Research, February 28, 2004)

US and allied troops remained in the country until 1999. The Haitian armed forces were disbanded and the US State Department hired a mercenary company DynCorp to provide "technical advice" in restructuring the Haitian National Police (HNP). (Ibid). Signs of the Times News for Mon, 18 Jan 2010
