Our PM is in India right now...

I don't see anybody freaking out about this....

Fact is, only small minded bigots who have no understanding of others cultures would react negatively to our nations representative taking part in others peoples traditions.

Here's a thought, how about taking on REAL issues.

I don't like when our politicians do this. Religions for one thing are not known for their non-violence for example.

Sure pols go to these events because there are votes, but to wear the clothes of a religion, and do the gestures turns me off. A better world is one with less religion action and symbols. They don't have to go to these events and dressup.

That is called showing proper respect for somebody else’s traditions, somebody else’s worldview (without necessarily agreeing with it). I have attended Catholic, Mormon Church services. At those services, I have taken communion with others (it is interesting to note that in Mormon church, the communion is bread and water, not wine). That doesn’t mean that I became a believer or that I was appeasing those faiths. It only means that I was in their place of worship and I was showing proper respect to them.

Or when I visit a Hindu temple, Sikh gurudwara etc., I remove my shoes at the door, keep them outside. It is their tradition, and they don’t want anybody coming in with shoes on.

This is what multiculturalism means, showing proper respect to those you disagree with. Harper, Obama were doing no more, no less.
