Stocks drop...and go up, all the time. One day isn't a very good indicator of what's going on, if you even consider the DJIA to be a good indicator of economic health.

Quite right, Tonington. That is why it is absurd to make a big deal of stocks dropping because of unemployment news. As it happened, stock recovered, but even if they had been down by 100 or 200 points, it wouldn’t mean a whole lot.

Sure you can blame the president, EagleSmack. But the right president to blame here is Bush (as Francis correctly pointed out). Bush was in power for eight years, the meltdown started under his watch.
Obama has been in office for less than one year. Give him a couple of years and then it becomes his crises. And Obama seems to be on the right track, there are many indicators which are showing that recovery is on the way. Unemployment takes time to come down, it usually lags behind by a few months.
If unemployment does not start coming down by this time next year, then Americans will start blaming Obama and the Democrats. But Obama has been in power for less than one year, he deserves at least one more year.
You can blame whomever you want, however. The person I quoted gave supporting reasons for blaming the groups that he did. The agents of the market have more influence on the fundamentals than the regulators who set the rules do.
