Kinda like humans with high powered rifles. As a friend says, if hunting is to be sporting, humans should not be allowed to go into the bush with more than a knife.

Every animal has its advantage.....teeth claws strength sight smell speed camoflauge hearing horns or the pack...

Man has two advantages......brains and tool-use.

A rifle is simply a tool. Our teeth, so to speak.

Ya, with our teeth it would be like gumming a deer to death.

Animals have also been known to use tools, so you are not special.

On an aside, I bet you have never hunted deer with a bow and arrow.

Yeah, I know....our tools are somewhat more complicated than a stick, but I realize many animals use tools.

No, I never used the bow. My friend and working partner is a master of the bow.......but I concentrated on the gun. The big differences are two-fold.....the bow requires much more time to master and practise to maintain your skill....and they are more apt to wound than is a rifle.

Bows are almost always used from ambush....tree stands.......

I certainly do not see the use of a bow to be morally superior.....perhaps it is less so, simply because of the wound factor.

I MIGHT HAVE KNOWN. Well you like killing, so the practice shouldn't be a problem...

At least the animal has a chance against an arrow. It seems you are not the great hunter you pretend to be. And yes, the bow is superior.

My you are becoming tiresome.....your attempts to be obnoxious are bearing fruit.

So explain, Oh Great Naturalist and Philosopher of Ethics, why you consider it morally superior to use the bow. Please.

First let me point out that rifles kill more effectively. Quicker, with less pain, and less chance of leaving a mortally wounded animal in the woods........explain how "the animal has a chance against an arrow". Please. I am all a-twitter inside at the thought of being blessed with an outpouring of your extensive knowledge on the subjects of hunting, wounds, archery, ballistics, wildlife.....etc.....I hear you are bordering on genius on the subject....from the streets of Toronto.

I would also point out that practically every bow hunter I know does so because he is very much into archery..........and bow hunters get to hunt deer for two weeks BEFORE the rifle season opens up. Most of them hang up the bow at that point, and get out their rifles.

Really, you would be muxh better off, and appear much less the fool if you left alone subjects on which you obviously know very little...........or nothing.

I'm not a hunter but I do live in a rural area and often see the mangled results of ineffective bow hunters. Any cred Risus had on this issue went out the window pretty quickly.

You also see (more so) the mangled results of the dolts shooting when they don't have a clue how to aim.

Let me just say tha I grew up in NB and have worked with the Ministry of Natural Resources for years. I know what I am talking about where you are only a wannabe authority. I will admit it, though, I have never hunted, except with a camera.
True sportsmen use Bow and Arrow when hunting just as a flyfisherman is a true sportsman in the angling community.

No, not really. Considering the vast majority of hunters use rifles and the majority of mangled deer I've seen have arrows sticking out of them, I would say that I don't "see (more so)"

If Dear Risus wants to start hauling out the bona fides, here are mine........I was brought up a hunter in a family of hunters......I have had a hunting licence every year for the past 41 years. I live in a city, but still own Albert Co. woodland that was part of the homestead that my family first made maple syrup on in 1820.

As for Natural Resources, I volunteered for years as an instructor for both the NB Safe Hunter course and the Federal Firearms Safety Course........in doing so I worked closely with local game wardens........guys that actually spent their time in the bush..........and we never had a clash of opinion over the nature of wildlife......

And you???????

That would hardly be fair. A deer has 4 sharp knives on its feet and some even have daggers attached to their heads. They are faster and stronger. Man has a brain, if he used it he would fashion a spear with the knife with which to hunt the deer with. THAT would make it relatively fair. Close quarter combat with a deer using only a knife would be hazardous to both parties. Close quarter combat with a grizzly would likely end up in death and possibly mangle the bear enough that it would starve to death.

First you call Saint John a city???

I actually worked with the wardens in the bush, more than what you can say. You only did hunter / firearms safety courses?? LOL, you can look up on the internet for that.
Owning woodland doesn't make you an outdoorsman. Come back when you are a real bushman. I was with them for 16 years. Sorry, you lose.
