My Friend...that they're rarely given is one thing, & why they're rarely (if ever now)
given is a more interesting (but no less frustrating) thing. It's part of Trudeau's legacy.
Ron - Hope this is not against the rules - and if it is they should be on a case by cae basis. I would ask that anyone who cares to send an email to the Minister and cc your friends - this sentence is a travesty to the family members and the Justice System is impugned by this. Open Letter to the Minister

ministryofjustice@gov.ab.ca.

Honourable Alison RedfordMinister of Justice and Attorney General.
A recent conviction in Calgary Alberta has clearly been a miscarriage of Justice in the sentencing of Daniel Tschetter for the deaths of 5 innocent people. Does the Crown intend to appeal this sentence. Many cases and recent case law across Canada have had longer sentences awarded for causing fewer deaths than this person killed. A reply is requested
Sign name and phone etc.

It's not just judges. In the latest Macleans magazine, Barbara Amiel suggests that Roman Polanski should be given leeway, I think her reasoning is that he's a jew and therefore he's already suffered.

When a right wing fukup like her takes such a stupid attitude, you know we're doomed.
