Anna, Islam needs Reformation, similar to what Christianity had with Martin Luther.
Islam has been moving backwards for the past 2 centuries.
We need secularism.

As decadent old empires crumble into moral decay, their religious beliefs become more fanatical. The Muslim religion is generally perceived as being much more radical than modern evangelical christianity with all the lovey dovey new age versions that are coming out (thinking of Alleywayz Starbucks evangelical movement). I can see why the more frightened types would want to latch onto Islam. It is a bigger crutch with bombs attached to it.Im just going to shoot this out there...
Could whats going on in europe, be compared to the old byzantine empire.... What i mean is that when constantnople fell, it became a muslim place. The people didn change just there beleifs?
I should point out though that though at least some of the social teachings of these Faiths are outdated, the spiritual teachings are still pertinent, and that could be harnessed for the moral development of their societies none-the-less.
That is true only for those who have faith, Machjo.
True, but why not use it to our advantage? To take an example, if I could harness a convict's religious Faith (and I dont care what Faith that is) to encourage him to respect the law, self, and others, and to better himself, I would be a fool to not choose to tap into this resource to achieve that objective of rehabilitating him so that he could become a model citizen and reduce his chances of relapse.

Perhaps it is the ones that move away from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, etc. that want to join the real world? Personally, I can't blame them. Let them dilute their religion by integrating with other peoples.Exactly, Islam is 500 years behind Christianity, probably more since they claim to follow exactly what Mohamed said.
I disagree. I think a few of its followers need their heads examined, er, need reformation, I mean. Nothing I've seen about Islam is much different from Christianity.Anna, Islam needs Reformation, similar to what Christianity had with Martin Luther.
Europe or Eurabia?Yes, I am making a big assumption. Compare the Christian Golden Age and the Dark Ages, both Christian societies, yet so different. Which will dominate in the coming decades? Compare Islam's Golden age (when even Chrsitians and Jews were fleeing to Muslim Spain for protection, as it co-incided with the Christian Dark Ages) and the current dark age of Islam. Again, which will Muslim Europe look like? We could assume any of these as the future of either religion. Religion can be a cause for good or evil. A Christian or Muslim Golden Age would be a wonderful thing for Europe. A Dark Age, not so good. Any of these is an assumption. So, what can we do about it beyond teaching respect for all world religions, and teaching students how the core spiritual teachings of all the major world religions are identical?
Yes I can. The aboriginals could have pushed the European explorers back into the sea. They weren't invading, they were just landing and exploring, after all. THey could have exterminated the first settlers. But they didn't, they welcomed them and even helped them survive the winters. By the time they reallized what was happening it was too late, there were too many of them/us. As their civilization and culture was overwhelmed, so will Europes be.You can't compare with the Aboriginals. The Aboriginals were indeed infaded and capitulated. Europe is fully in control and chooses who can enter and who can't. And as for religion, immigration is not the only source. Conversion plays a role too.

In ages past people depended on instincts to survive. When they saw the kind of actions we witness in Europe today, they reacted to defend themselves and their culture. But today, there is the "progressive" class, that aimless mass of Western humanity so burdened by cultural self-loathing that it is to Islam, as ungulates are to lions." (sorry, don't know who's quote that is) Today the base instincts that ensured our survival are considered signs of weakness and irrational fear, and we're supposed to ignore constant re-occuring offences by specific groups. When they overtly express their hatred of our democracy, freedoms and institutions and delare their intention to Islamicize us, we like sheep, continue to invite them into our fold.Who's making the assumptions now?
Based on what they themselves are saying and based on their past history, I would say that their treatment of Europeans will be somewhat better. My point was not that Euros would be treated that badly, but rather that Muslims will not treat them well, and European civilization will likely fade away and be supplanted by Muslim culture. So areyou saying the Muslims will be as merciless towards the Europeans as we've been towards the Aboriginals?
Actually that's exactly the point I was making. A culture becoming doninant over another overwhelms it.Machjo, Extrafire makes a good point, though not for the reason that he thinks. Christians, Europeans were extremely nasty to aboriginals (giving them small pox infested blankets and so on).
What Europe will be like in 50 years or 100 years nobody knows, it is purely speculation. They may be majority Islam, have Sharia and Islamic Dark Ages, or they may have a rise of extreme Christianity and may have another Christian Dark Age, who knows. My hope is that it continues to be the same tolreant, progressive society that it is today.
Yeah, right, and the charter can never be changed, right? Not even a Muslim majority would be able to abolish that charter, why it's a fundemental law of nature now!:roll:Sharia law is incompatible with the Canadian Charter of rights and Freedoms, at least the parts that limit political freedoms and gender equality, which is typically the laws that most xenophobes tell us are coming our way. Those cannot even be side stepped by the Notwithstanding clause.
So, don't worry about it.
