What myth? It is not made clear in the opening post. I'm still in the dark as to what this thread is about.
The myth that science actually knows anything. Beave's got a conspiracy theory going involving Velikovsky, the electric cosmos, catastrophism, repression of dissidents, and a variety of other ill-founded speculations, and believes science is corrupt beyond measure and defends itself like a religious orthodoxy. That's what he wanted this to be about, but nobody's risen to the bait yet.

Is it your intent to insult the other nobodys in this thread? Count them, that's one dip with the old Velikovsky net and the Eastern Nobody Guppies swim right in.

But he made a thread about MoND? Isn't that counter-productive to supporting the contention that science defends itself zeolously? Its one thing to say that modern science doesn't allow dissent, but when you actually post the dissent to make that assertion... well, I don't know what that is.

But he made a thread about MoND?
Yes, well... don't expect logical consistency. The title of that thread is really what it's about, the "crisis in cosmology". Some interesting new findings of the sort science and scientists live for indicates a crisis. When you view science as a religious orthodoxy, new findings are roughly equivalent to a Christian theologian discovering some good evidence that Jesus never existed.

It seems to me that Skepticism as a practice (with the capital) means to apply skepticism to everything except your preferred beliefs. Also, to apply skepticism like David Hume himself.

Sure, but people with an exuberant desire to capitalize words seem to have a perverse preference for where they apply skepticism. Thus giving birth to Skepticism, in my bizarre sense of humour.

Newton was a drinking man and had a habbit of falling on his face a lot it was during one of those times when he made the connection to gravity. The apple story just made it more acceptable.

Deconstructing the walls of Jericho

This is what archaeologists have learned from their excavations in the Land of Israel: the Israelites were never in Egypt, did not wander in the desert, did not conquer the land in a military campaign and did not pass it on to the 12 tribes of Israel. Perhaps even harder to swallow is the fact that the united monarchy of David and Solomon, which is described by the Bible as a regional power, was at most a small tribal kingdom.

So the story about the manna falling as carbohydrates from the tail of comet Venus isn't true then? Velikovskians will be very distressed.

Did the manna come in different flavors or were they stuck with vanilla or strawberry or something....?
