The event was the end of particular pseudo-scientific myth. It would be nice to participate in a discussion surrounding the damage scientific quackery has caused mankind these last three-quarters of a century and how that crime came to be perpetrated on the whole of the inhabitants of this planet. The crime is real. The conspiracy ongoing and the loot huge.

The last three quarters of a century would take us back to 1934 when all this "scientific Quackery" was allegedly started. Below is a link to just a small list of scientific advances from around the start of the infamous period you speak of:

Because Pluto's orbit is quite elliptical in shape, at times Pluto travels closer to the Sun than Neptune's orbit. This was the case from January 1979 through February 1999, when Neptune was the farthest planet from the Sun.

So, the order of the planets has changed within man's memory.

Neptune and Pluto have a mean distance from the Sun of 2.8 billion km and 5.9 billion km respectively. Neptune and Pluto have an orbital period of 165 years and 248 years respectively. Pluto's orbit nips inside Neptunes orbit for twenty years, once every 248 Earth years so Neptune is closer to the Sun over ninety percent of the time. I would say the order of the planets is pretty safe.
