Cheer up gang. It looks like we'll have our warm weather back by about Tuesday or Wednesday. The weather man is predicting 25 to 27 degrees. We've just had a new fence put in and as soon as everything is dry again, we have to stain it. Not just to make it look nice, but hopefully, the oil-based stain will help preserve the fence from the elements. With 300 feet of new fence, I'm guessing it will take Jan and I about a week to apply the stain...another week to get my hands clean again....;-)

Southern Saskatchewan has had seven straight months (Dec-June) of
below average temperatures. This winter was the coldest one in 30yrs,
we've been told. Trippy, eh?

We've also been told (the Environment Canada Guy on the radio) that if
we took the first half of July this year (1st-15th) and compared it against
the same time frame annually since they started keeping records out
here well over a hundred years ago, that so far this is the coldest July on
record. We had rain for nine of the first fifteen days this month.

I believe we've had one day over +30c this year, & that was in mid-June.
Tomorrow should be the second one, and I'm very much looking forward
to it. We've missed any heat waves this year so far, but today was a great
day and tomorrow will be better. This winter might be another El Nino year
to and that usually moderates the temperature out here through the winter.

Its been a strange year so far. No hot summer nights either. I've had my
fire-pit loaded with wood since last fall (I'm not kidding) and we haven't had
a night yet (well, June 15th, but I wasn't home) that I'd be able to comfortably
sit around the fire with friends 'till the wee hours.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not whining, but offering a contrast to the heat wave
discussion. I don't ever remember a prairie summer like this one. Weird....

I had to have a fire going in my wood stove all morning yesterday (No. Ont.). And the rain is never-ending. Mr. Environment Canada said in May he predicted a hot, dry summer here. Wrong!

And while that is also weird, it was like this last summer, too. Hmmm. At least I don't have to water the garden.

Hi Ron- Just don't make the mistake of mentioning to anyone that you have doubts about global warming, as there are a lot of people who are convinced and get very touchy on the subject. Bad weather is bad enough without having to put up with a bunch of ridicule. After about 8 months of "winter" here we are having a fairly good summer- most days now between 32 and 35C.

Hi guys,girls

I have to say we've had a great summer so far. We've had many days over 25. I know that is not particularly hot where you live but it is good for Nanaimo. Over the next week we are promised highs of 32 and 33.....A little warmer than usual in Nanaimo but great weather, at least for me. The only problem is that though the temperature goes down to 16 or 17 overnight, the house doesn't cool off till the wee hours...bitch bitch.....;-)

This coming Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, the weatherman is calling for 34,34, 35 degrees as the high. The only problem is if the hot, dry weather stays too long, we will have very strict watering restrictions.

Pretty bloody warm around here these days, too. Whatever happened to the global cooling people have been talking about?

Man you are getting the weather we have had in past years. It is hot and dry here just like Juan says. I was awake several times in the night because the house was still just too hot. I'm glad I'm starting back to work today just so I can be in air-conditioning all day. I'll be there til' 10:00 so the house should be a tad cooler by the time I get home. I don't remember the last time it rained here but it was some time ago. Must be getting close to at least 2 months or more. Went away for 3 days and our lawn was all dry and our plants all sagging. Have to have underground sprinklers in the next house.

JLM - our fire hazard is listed as extreme right now. Not as bad as Kelowna though.

We plan on putting in about 6 inches of topsoil and a new lawn in the Fall. We haven't been watering the lawn and right now it looks about like shredded wheat. ;-)

Saskatchewan isn't a globe! It's flatter than the 16 year old gymnasts they put on the floor in China...

No....it's not Global ....but it is localized like this pocket of below average
temperatures we've been experiencing on the southern Prairies. Be it the
luck of the draw or part of a larger (longer) cycle, I'm not even going to guess
at....but it's been cold here...

....and what're ya' doing watching those 16yr old Chinese Gymnasts for Ton?8O

I've never seen a female gymnast that didn't resemble a Lego® person. That's common knowledge, or so I thought.

Sheesh, you flat landers sure are sensitive about your comparisons!

Prairies: good for spending time in the barcar reading or chatting as you go through them. Or if you drive:

"Lookout for that tractor, Les!!"
"Anna, that tractor's still a day and a half away yet".

35C at 2 P.M. in Grand Forks.

It is 35C in Nanaimo right now......And 35C is forecast for tomorrow...

I love warm and sunny weather but maybe three or four inches of rain might be appreciated sometime soon....;-)
