And there's more proof...;-)

I think Harpo changed his stripes pretty darn quick in the last couple years,...

Beyond that, you and Dex, being the exception Ton, I have pretty much given up conversing with University grads. Especially Carlton grads...... Complete know it all's. Complete asshats. Blithering leftards without so much as a second thought about other perspectives but what was installed (Yes, I said 'installed') into their myopic minds by some Professor.

Go easy on him CB. Real life manages to extricate most student's heads after a few years removed from the nonsense.

There is no free speech left, we've lost the right.

I find it kind of ironic that "free speech" is one of the freedoms that we value the least (for ourselves), yet if others make a statement we disagree with, they are leaving themselves open to all kinds of insults and ridicule- I guess it's most important for ourselves but least important for others. Just try saying what's on your mind next time you encounter a picket line, that curtails what you want to do.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it was about free speech. Obviously your school doesn't teach you everything.

Obviously not. I never claimed it did. No school teaches everything.

The thread is about free speech yes, but in the second video the two men were specifically ranting about how the university communities are inhospitable to any view that isn't firmly on the left, which simply isn't true. Not even close.

That's what I picked out from your content for discussion.

He has to, it's pretty common in minority governments. His ass would be canned if he didn't. That's not a point for evolving conservative views, but for political survival.

Well, maybe that says more about the central Canadian institutions?

The idea that grads are simply downloading content from professors without any thought is ridiculous to me. You don't sit in the class rooms, or library, and hear the discussions about this class or that lab. You don't hear the discussion about performance evaluations that all professors must go through at the end of each course. You don't hear the debate in classroom. You don't work with other students on group assignemnts and term projects. This is as much a part of the learning as the lectures, in fact more so in some cases. Some classes have huge marks allocated to group work, which I don't genrally like anymore. I had a bad group this year, I basically had to write the entire business proposal for my entrepeneurship class.

Granted many graduates are left leaning, but this is exactly what I explained in my first post. This doesn't mean they are indoctrinated. Maybe you have only talked to them on very specific subjects. You thought I was a blithering leftard until you got to know me. I do have some very strong liberal views, but I have equally strong conservative views that not every poster takes the time to see. Free speech is one of them. Market economics is another. Personal responsibility, a strong military...the list is long.

I doubt I'm a stand out in this regard. There's a million university students in this country, and I've met my fair share that aren't in any way blithering leftards.

Idealistic, sure, though this is not limited to "left leaners"...

I screwed it up the first time..........

You mean you cherry picked.

No, cherry picking is when you pick a specific piece that fits with your argument, and ignore that which contradicts. Like when you selectively quoted me, and said I would never learn anything if I only discussed with like-minded individuals. This, when in that very post I said:

"I'm exposed to new ideas, many old ideas that built the foundation for new ideas, and I'm challenged to see a larger picture. Some people will keep their idealism, others will soften, or perhaps harden on those new ideas."

In this paragraph I was specifically discussing the fallacy that there is a left-leaning indoctrination in students. I even instructed you to read this paragraph again. If it's too vague for you that here I am discussing learning from opposing viewpoints, then I suggest that you need some English language lessons.

You're never a surprise. Short, trite, cheap posts when you can't think of anything better to say.

Consistent to a fault.

I never went to college or university because I met too many students from those institutions that walked around like they had broom handles up their butts (which a few gay men I know find a turn on.) Then I look at the degrees that are in charge of our forests, our medical and law systems and I have even less respect for them, but I think that constant badgering, name calling and general put downs are even less admirable.

Yeah, it's very sad but colleges and universities impart knowledge NOT wisdom.
