The lawns in BC are green it's the forests that are brown because of all the beetle kill.

Okanagan lawns are brown lots. But it is semi arid (almost desert). Your informant is probably not a green thumb. The coast gets plenty of moisture.
Duncan is here on the Island Les. We had a dry year. Our lawns have basically died and we are working hard to bring them back to life. We have huge bare spots all over the place. They did not winter well. Added to that we had a cooler than normal Spring so everything is late this year. Okanagan lawns are only brown for people who are too lazy to water them.
I just finished (in the half hour)putting in my bedding plants. Normally they would have been in a month ago at least.

I didn't know that about Duncan. Perhaps a decent remedy is concrete painted green? lol
Okanagan lawns are frequently brown because the Okanagan is almost a desert (very dry) and they ration water. We lived there long enough. lol

Someone just told me yesterday that the lawns are all brown.

He lives in Duncan, but I don't get it, there's water all over BC & it rains.

Thanks

Michelle
Michelle it is not near as wet in BC as you seem to think it is. Duncan is less than an hour down the road from where I live. Vancouver Island and the Vancouver area are usually more wet than the rest of BC but it's not like it's raining here everyday. It hasn't rained in days although we are supposed to have a slim chance of some tomorrow. Our doors and windows are all open. It's been dry and lovely. I've got a sun burned face from planting flowers yesterday.

Here on vancouver island, our lawns are always green in the spring, but this spring
is a little different because we had a very dry winter and spring, I started watering
my shrubs and everygreens early, so that the warm sun wouldn't shock them, as the ground was very dry. Unusual here on the island.

We always hear so much complaining about our rain, I won't do that again, i miss
it, and see how valuable it is for our green life.

Many let their lawns brown out for the summer, to save on water, that is fine, as
they return to their natural green in the fall, when cooler weather and rain arrive.
I have vegetables and lots of shrubbery and flowers all summer, so I have to water,
so the lawn, (not very big at all) gets watered as well, stays green year round.

A green plush lawn is really nice but in most cases not practical considering the amount of watering it takes- but don't despair, it is next to impossible to kill grass, it can be brown all summer long but when the autumn rains return, it's green again in a matter of days.

I bet it is Cliff. Bout the same colour as BC Bud? Yippy Kiyay alright!:smile:;-)

Saw a picture of a menu on a chalk board in a cafe in Kathmandu where it was legal to sell pot and hash from all over the world and the most expensive item on the menu was Kootenay Green. BC has a reputation for quality and craftsmanship.I was told that American growers by BC bud for their personal use and sell their crops to the street. Isn't it nice to know we are known for something else beside raping and pillaging the land?:lol:
