I'm voting, I'm voting!!
missaddicted, I agree with your whole post. I KNEW Kris was going to kill Heartless, and I have to give the judges credit for giving him (at least partly) the raves he deserved. Simon could have been more effusive. Even he knew that was great. I wish Kris also could have nailed Apologize, but it was really good. He defended it later but wasn't on mic (he said he didn't want to do two acoustic performances, I think.) (Shut up, Kara, you twit.)
Adam was hardly "brilliant" as Simon said, but he did what he does best. A bit safe. The Aerosmith was actually unpleasant for me to listen to. I'm not crazy about his voice (I'm really not) but I have to say I can totally understand why people who love it are crazy about him.
I think I have to fall back on the cliche, and say that One sounded like "Adam Lambert in U2: The Musical" to me. What you said:
...he should've stayed low key all the way through, it would've made it more powerful in my opinion.
was so true. Yes! I think he's started to oversing, lately. Sometimes less is more, Adam. Even for you.
Hey, did you see Kris's blue thumbnail when he got the text in Arkansas at the AT&T store? Ha.
I'm sure Danny's fans ate up You Are So Beautiful and I have to admit that I almost enjoyed it, almost being the key word here. It doesn't erase "Scream On". It wasn't embarassing at least.
Ow. (My ear hurts from the phone.) Am getting through now, much more. (10:04 EST) "Thanks for voting for contestant 2. Watch American Idol tomorrow on Fox, sponsored in part by AT&T."
Gokey. The first song was like PYT revisited. Only not as good. I noticed his voice is hurting. Supposedly he's still recovering from the scream. Second song I think was purposely chosen because his voice is still rough (Joe Cocker, get it?). He did a good job with it. Like you,
m.a., I almost liked it. It was actually one of his best performances, and made me question (not for the first time, actually) why he didn't do more ballads on the show (or did he? I forget. Endless Love, what else?). Yeah, that was good. Unfortunately!
Kara is an idiot. I'm actually glad that Kris did Apologize straight, since he was already doing Heartless. No need to rearrange both songs in my opinion. Kara had to know what he was doing for his second song. The judges were even more insufferable than ever, is possible, tonight. But in the end, I'm glad that they wore pretty fair in their comments to Kris.
Yes, though they seriously overpimped the other two. Somehow when Kris got a rave, though, it sounded like actual, fresh responses, not pre-written pimpage.
About Kara, yeah, they actually went to commercial with her saying she was excited about how Kris was going to change up Apologize, or some such nonsense, when she must have known how he was going to do it. Then in her critique, when she said she hoped he'd have come out and done Apologize acoustic, I knew (from mj's spoilers) that he was going to do that with Heartless, and I thought: come on, Kara, you know what he's doing next. But I also thought it set him up rather well to do just that.
I didn't really understand why Simon turned the critique segment after Apologize into a bitchfest criticizing Randy and Kara for not working with Kris on the arrangement. Is this what he did with Adam's arrangement? If so, I didn't like it!
The overpimpage just got to me so much tonight. U2 gladly gives permission for
Adam to sing their song! Because it's Adam, you see. This just for starters.
On the David Cook forum where I hang out, people are repeating mantras of "Put the Go in Gokey" and "Vote for Kris". A few of them haven't voted this season yet, but they're voting for Kris tonight! Awesome!
Great!
