I did worse I think. I actually pumped my fists in the air while getting up and I literally replicated Danny's scream from yesterday! Might have been a squeal though. Then I cried. Of course. He looked shocked and so was I.

Then I got my hopes up for a Danny shock boot, but no, Allison was the unfortunate victim from yesterday.

I'm so excited that Kris is going to have his homecoming, they're always so emotional. You know that Cook's homecoming won a Technical Emmy last year for the montage or something? It was great.

And sue me, I'm already nervous for next week. Are they going to bring out a double-decked bus to roll over Kris or did yesterday actually made them realize how awful Danny can be. Judges' choice can be a tricky thing... At least, they're doing only two songs instead of three. They're going to be busy in the next few days!

ETA: I didn't need to see Paula "sing" on the Idol stage. No Doubt's 1997 record was the first defining record from my teenage years, so yay for Just A Girl. And Daughtry's song sucked.

SQUEEE! *happy dance* (kinda sorry that Allison is gone but I think she'll be even better given time to grow into her talent)

LOL! You're frightening me.

Might have been a squeal though. Then I cried. Of course. He looked shocked and so was I.

Okay. Seriously. I cried too. (I, ross, couturier to the Canadian Idols.) It's nuts! What's happened to us?? Freakin' Kris, man. He's just awesome. Totally love the face he makes when he's shocked. His wife is so cute, too.

I'll say it again for the hell of it -- I can't believe we picked this guy out of that whole crowd. Not even sure why. This is the first time I saw him, and I thought he was cool. Actually thought they both were.

Gokey handled last night's fiasco pretty well. He minimized it. He made it a joke. But it will never be forgotten! NEVER! And he will never repeat it (unfortunately. That was sick! I want him to do that every song, now.)

Did you see Simon mouth "sorry" to Danny when Ryan quoted his critique from last night? Sorry?! For what? They were so friggin' easy on him! It was an Epic Fail! No apology to Kris, though. Uggh. Simon.

SQUEEE! *happy dance* (kinda sorry that Allison is gone but I think she'll be even better given time to grow into her talent)

Really glad both of you guys came over to this thread with me. Small squee for us.

I agree about Allison. I was sorry to see her go (Michael Slezak is gonna need therapy), but I also feel less bad because she's so young and there will be so many more chances for her. And she is going to grow into her talent, as you said, SleepinIn, and be truly awesome, I think.

Okay, one more observation about Kris then I'll stop gushing like a thireen year old girl. For now.

Did you guys think, after this exchange, that he might have a chance of being safe?

Ryan: "Simon, don't you want him to change that attitude, don't you want him to feel like he should be here?" Simon: "Very good point, Ryan. Feel like you should be here, Kris." (Said in a flippant way.) Followed by, "Look, Kris, we don't want humble any more." Why bother saying this if he was leaving (I thought to myself, hopefully)?

So now I have to vote for two hours again next week. Arrgh.

Did you guys read about the dress rehearsal disasters? Scary stuff.

Speaking of scary stuff...Paula. She didn't disgrace herself, but, wow, such cheese.

missadicted, we're opposite. I liked Daughtry, didn't like (never did) No Doubt. And Slash is an amazing player, I'll give him that.

Quoting myself from the first page of this thread:

I also liked the way-too-brief auditions of Kris Allen and Felicia Barton that were included in a montage.

For me (for you, for me), it was his voice that caught my attention first and the five seconds they showed us from his audition were enough for me to know that I would probably be a fan!

Friday is the homecoming day is I remember correctly from last year, so we should know the song choice from the judges Friday morning. Well, it happened that way last year and some previous years too apparently. The contestants received a "text message" from one of the judges while they were interviewed on the local news, so maybe that's how it will be announced Friday. I'm a bit scared I have to admit...

I hate judges' choice. Especially at this stage of the competition. Early on, maybe, but when everything is at stake? It doesn't make sense to me. What does it prove?

I'm pretty scared about it, but I think I'll just coast a bit tonight on the good feeling.

Not quite sure what's up with Simon harping on Kris's modesty?
I mean, wasn't Archie modest to a fault and didn't Simon love him?

So why no announcement of a bottom 2 tonight? Who were they protecting? Was Adam in the bottom 2 again? I have more specualtion but I need to go to sleep now.

OMG!!! I just watched Randy and Simon interviewed after the show and can you guess what these broken records said?

Randy: "It looks like it's coming down to an Adam-Danny finale. We've been saying that for weeks now, haven't we?"

Simon: "Yeah, we said it weeks ago, Adam and Danny. That's going to be the finale."

I mean, this may in fact happen, but the ignoring of Kris is becoming bizarre. They must realize from the voting that he has a huge amount of fans. I can't see them wanting to piss off all those viewers.

After seeing that, I'm pretty sure the top two last night were not Adam and Danny. If they were, and the show wants them in the finale, the show would have made sure we knew they were the top two.

Thanks for taking one for the team Ross, lol.

Paula -- the dancing was great. Why oh why lipsynch on a musical competition show? That bothers me. She's not the only one to do it from the musical guests - wasn't there someone on CI that did it too? I Can't remember who.. It bugs me. Pet Peeve. I know she's not competing but still.. grr.

You know what? I think you're right. They definately would have said if Adam and Danny were sitting at the top. I think that they are both good singers, but so is Kris.

Wow, I just read on MJ's that Randy picked "Apologize" as a song choice for Kris... which is actually a decent and current (!) song choice!

Color me surprised.

Paula picked an obscure song for Danny. I've already forgotten what it is.

No word for Adam yet, but it'll be out soon I guess.

Supposedly One by U2 for Adam (not confirmed). Apparently Randy picked Kris's song. That's a decent song choice for him. Of course Archie sang it with OneRepublic on the finale last season, make of it what you will.

Just watched Kris's hometown visit vids on mj's blog. He looks happy but tired. Tired but happy.

In a segment about Adam being on the cover of EW mj wrote:

I guess the folks at Entertainment Weekly find the rest of the Idol finalists kinda boring, because it’s only Adam Lambert who graces the May 11th issue.

What’s more, the cover story appears to focus on the burning question of whehter OMG! an openly gay contestant can win American Idol. They name check Will Young and Clay Aiken as gay Idols who came out of the closet after their Idol runs.

Interestingly, they don’t mention Canadian Idol’s reigning winner, Theo Tams. Openly gay, he was permitted to discuss his life and his relationships in a frank and honest way while competing on the show last summer. Didn’t seem to hurt him any. And from what I could tell, there weren’t screaming headlines in the Canadian press wondering if a gay guy could win Canadian Idol.

Guess mj watched a different show than I did.

It's funny that you brought that up... I wanted to point out that Theo sang Apologize last summer, the first week of the semis (top 24). And it was after that performance that Ben asked him why he had chosen that song and Theo said that he was in a relationship and he had to tell "him" it was too late or something like that. Well, there was this big debate whether Theo said "him" or "em" but it sounded (and still sounds) like "him" to me. I guess that's what MJ is refering to... even though I agree that that comment doesn't make him "openly gay".

Also, I was rewatching the Top 6 show not that long ago and Zack, in his critique, actually tells him something like: "you're in this Rufus Wainright kinda cool vibe, eclectic, kinda unique person, I don't know if Canada's ready to embrace that as an Idol" (I actually just went to listen to the video to get the quote right, I'm insane!). Anyway, I didn't remember that comment at all, but watching it back after all the "OMG Gay" reactions concerning Adam, I was like "way to be subtle, Zack!".

Did you see pictures of the crowd at Kris' performance this afternoon, it was huge! I'm sure it gave Kris a big boost! I guess Kris Allen Nation will have other pictures/vids from the others events from the day. It's really great to hear him with just his guitar and without the band, especially the AI band!

The U2 song is a bit a strange song choice for Adam, no? Does it really fit him? I like a lot of U2 songs, but One isn't one of them (heh!). I find it pretty boring honestly. It has a great message maybe? Maybe Simon wants Adam to be the "inspirational" one now!

I haven't looked at a lot of stuff from Adam's home visit yet, I tried to get caught up with Kris' one first and foremost!

Man, I haven't been really nervous this season yet, but I'm already nervous for next week. Am I crazy to still have a little hope that Kris gets past Gokey to get to the finale? It's a great vision anyway...

I hope the spoilers are right. After her remarks about Theo, I'm beginning to doubt mj.

Anyway, I didn't remember that comment at all, but watching it back after all the "OMG Gay" reactions concerning Adam, I was like "way to be subtle, Zack!".

I remember that very well! It was ridiculous. Zack also said something not too subtle to Mark Day, about looking like a grape (in a purple shirt), and the way he spun it, it sounded like he was calling him a fruit.

So would Top 2 be a good thing for Kris? Would winning be a good thing for him? Will he have to sing things like My Life Would Suck Without You, if he signs with 19Evil?

I'm not going to lie to you, I was thinking about these things today. It's like this show has taken me over. Oh! before I forget, there's some good hometown stuff about Kris on MTV from May 6, May 7, and today. The videos are worth a look.

Where did you see the pics? I haven't looked at Kris Allen Nation today, is that where? *goes to check it out* Wow, loads of radio interviews and stuff. Think I'll check some of it out now.

He sounds great without the band. Ha! His brother accidentally voted for Matt 100 times one night. (I liked how Matt G. has sounded without the band, too, btw -- on Ellen, for ex. Really great. He's way better than I realized. Also, his Slezak interview was great! Hilarious.)

So Paula chose Danny's song, Simon chose Adam's, and Randy chose Kris's? And Kara chose...

Oh! I forgot to mention it! I got tickets for the top 10 today. Well, ticket. I couldn't force any of my friends to go with me. I'm right up front. That is really good, at such a huge arena.

I've been asking myself the same questions (except that I like My Life Would Suck Without You, other winners or runner-ups have been given worse material apparently!). The thing is that if he makes Top 2, he's pretty much garanteed a record deal. But, with 19Evil, which could be bad I guess. But, if he leaves at top 3, which could allow him to free himself from 19Evil, who knows if he'll be able to get a record deal, and a good one at that.

Oh! before I forget, there's some good hometown stuff about Kris on MTV from May 6, May 7, and today. The videos are worth a look.

MTV doesn't allow Canadians to watch their videos! It's too bad.

(I liked how Matt G. has sounded without the band, too, btw -- on Ellen, for ex. Really great. He's way better than I realized. Also, his Slezak interview was great! Hilarious.)

Agreed!

And Kara chose...

Kara supposedly wrote the coronation song, but it hasn't been confirmed.

Ah, you're lucky! *tries not to sound jealous*

By the way, MJ (your new best friend!) posted a video of Adam singing the SSB in front of the Marines and I have to say, I wish he would just sing like that on the show. He sounds great when he concentrates on his lower/middle range without going for the glass-breaking notes.

Wow, I'm tired, this show is wearing me out. I feel like I went home to Conway with Kris and sang all day. Really worried about his voice, since it's not a 'trained" voice like La Glambert's. I hope he gets a chance to rest it.

Didn't watch the SSB (it took me a minute to figure out what SSB stood for, I'm embarrassed to say. ha.)...I'll do that. Did you see his high school graduation?

song

Who was that cute kid, and why is that guy in all the tacky clothes from Hot Topic impersonating him? (Okay, the clothes comment was jmho.)

He has such an Idol voice. Maybe that's what I dislike about it. (Sorry. I'm getting competitive now. Watch out. haha.)

Here's a video of Katy Allen, and Kris's brother, and parents, Kris meeting the governor of Arkansas, etc.

Yeah, it would probably be better for Kris to have the 19Evil contract, though it didn't do Blake Lewis (for instance) much good, Arista dropped him almost as soon as his CD hit the shelves. I saw it at Target the other day (I only shop the finest stores). A few months ago Blake was in Boston playing at a small club. This show is so weird the way it creates stars-of-the-moment. There's huge hype and publicity and hopes are raised, but often it's a dead end. Then the next season, repeat. And everyone buys into it again.

Wow, Adam was a Beach Boy! I actually like him way better as he is now. (it's a totally superficial judgement but that's what the show is all about) Voice was amazing, but where was the fun? I like sparkly Adam best. I haven't totally watched everything but I caught a bit of Kris and Adam's homecoming videos. Loved Adam's reaction to the streaker - uncontrollable giggles.

I was thinking about the "do you really want to win the competition" question this week after watching that interview with Jacob where he mentioned that he really wanted to be 3rd and posted the message on his website telling people not to vote for him because he didn't like the winner's song. (I always liked Jacob's version best.. but he's right it was still a crappy Idol song)

I'd always thought that it's best that you win the competition, but that really changed after Taylor Hicks won. Taylor won and it suddenly seemed that all the promotion that usually went to the winner of Idol went to Chris. Now, I liked Chris better too, but I hated the implication that if they don't like who the viewers vote for they'll just promote the other guy more than the winner.

So at that point winning wasn't worth as much as it once was. If the competitors stay true to themselves while learning whatever they can, while they can, from whomever they can that's all that you can hope for. It has actually become more like Canadian Idol (x1000) for the other competitors. They have the platform for x number of weeks they have to shine as bright as they can for that undetermined time period and then when the Idol spotlight fades they can translate that somehow into a career.

I've never thought that the only measure of a successful artist is the ability to sell CD's in the millions.

I watched an interview with Adam and his mother and they both seem to be gigglers. They laugh a lot.

Adam in his high school phase looks like one of my best friends when we were in high school together. My friend's hair is red, but otherwise it's like they were separated at birth.

I read an interview with a woman Adam knows from theatre, who said that when she first knew him she nicknamed him "Apple Pie" because of his wholesome good looks. In that high school clip, he does look kind of like the 1940's MGM movie star Van Johnson, who was known for that All-American look.

SleepinIn, just for nothing I thought you might like to see Jacob's blog that you referred to. If you haven't already. I don't know whether Jacob was just being typically cryptic (his blogs ares sometimes like verbal mazes), or if he had to be careful not to come right out and say "don't vote for me" (he wasn't even supposed to be blogging during the competition, is my understanding). But he left it to his fans to figure out his meaning. ("10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3.") Also, one of his band mates blogged that Jacob missed the band and missed his mom, and wanted to come home. All this started the forum talk that did result in some fans not voting for him.

I'd always thought that it's best that you win the competition, but that really changed after Taylor Hicks won. I don't like that, either. I never watched, back then, so all this is new to me.

There are so many unfair aspects to this thing, and the performer in me gets outraged sometimes. TPTB, Fox, Simon make millions off this thing and the "stars" of it make...well, I don't know if they even get paid; I guess if they make it to the tour they get good pay. I know the show creates stars, and they should be grateful, and it's their choice to sign up for it. Etc. But I always think that they should get a nice cut of those millions just because there would be no show without them.

Go Kris Allen Nation!

I actually remember that blog! LOL - thanks for reposting it Ross, I haven't seen it in awhile. I remember reading it that last week of Jacob's, and it did give me the impression at the time that he was ready to leave although you're right he did leave it rather vague. On top of the blog itself I remember that when he sang he didn't have the same energy -- I don't know if that was intentional or not --but previously he was all in when he performed and it didn't feel the same to me. Then when he sang it again the next night for his sing off the energy was back - although that seems to happen doesn't it? They have a great 2nd performance when the pressure is off. I do however remember how mad Zach was at the time. And you can actually see that in his body language during the 2nd version of I Want you to Want me. It was interesting alright. LOL. Everything worked out for the best for everyone though.

I know they get a weekly amount for appearing on Tv, I'd imagine that it's pretty small though. And I think they get something for the Itunes songs...??

I love the sign.. We eat ice for lunch.. HA! I love it - and I loved seeing all the Kris support.

I agree! He may have an Idol type of voice, but the package is not the usual one!

Here's a closeup video of Kris receiving his text from Randy and Kara (!) telling him his song choice. His first reaction is "Oh no", but after he says "this could be great" or something like that. Anyway, fans have already started to worry about his "oh no", but I don't want to read too much into it.

"Save the Hobbit (or the Puppy), save the season" (tm Michael Slezak in the latest Idolatry video)!

I didn't take Kris's "oh no" literally. He seemed to like the choice.

About the Idolatry video. I don't want to be politically incorrect, here, because it seems Allison has now been all but canonized. But I have to be honest. She was not all that, to me. Her performances mostly run together in my mind. She was always good, but I can't say she ever gave a brilliant or even a really memorable performance.

The stuff about Danny was OTT but I still agreed with a lot of it. Seeing the Danny/Kris duet clip, I remebered when I saw that originally, last Tuesday. I was sure Danny was basically refusing to make eye contact with Kris or be engaged by Kris in any way. It was like: "Please ignore that other person on stage with me. I'm the star, here." Of course I assumed the judges would call him on it, but no. Au contraire. "Danny, you were better than Kris." Well, he was more arrogant, and after all, in Simon's book, that equals great.
