It wasn't. Funny game, I thought Chicago dominated in the second periods & Canucks had a stranglehold on them for over 17 minutes of the third & that was about "all she wrote". Canucks do those things too often.

That didn't take long. Just a shot and a tip in, can't do much about that. Canucks
controlled most of that game, chicago won the game, but they can't go into the
dressingroom very excited about how they played, only about the outcome.
Willie Mitchell had a tough night, but they are all human, and won't always play
great, and tonight was his night to look ordinary.
Changes everything now, as it is the best of 3, back home on Saturday, and do
it all over again.

Refs let a few penalty calls go right at the end, and early in the overtime,
seems like they put their whistles away.

Canucks were just playing solid defense for much of the game, kept chicago on
the outside for most of the time, and of course they will get the odd chance,
but not much, chicago were very frustrated, made some big surges just before
the tieing goal, that's about it. No stranglehold by either team.
We had our chances too, from time to time, but canucks weren't trying for
much, just patiently waiting for openings and mistakes by chicago, and we
did almost score a few times.
If you were listening to craig simpson throughout the game, he was commending
how the canucks were controlling the game, and not allowing chicago to do much
of anything, and he also commented, that he wondered why chicago coach didn't
change their style, so they could penetrate better.
If chicago were allowed to play 'their' game the score would not have been
1-0 for most of the game, they are a very offensive high scoring team, and
they don't like being tied up all the time, and puck chasing, like they had to.
This is hockey, and I am amazed by some of the callers on 1040, fans get
so paranoid when the canucks lose, I really don't understand that. I also
noticed that many people seemed to think canucks should win this series
in 4 or 5 games, how 'dumb', all that tells me is, that no one pays much attention
to others teams, just the canucks, and it also tells me that many fans are
mentally weak, and seem to emotionally 'crack' because 'their' team lost,
poor babies, suck it up, it's hockey.

You're dead RIGHT talloola. Most of us get caught up in the obsession of winning and I'm as guilty as most althought I know it's how you play the game that counts.
Looks like Bieksa has an injury, he was obviously hurt last night, and they said
he was the last one out of the medical room, and limping, so that is a major
concern, especially with Salo not ready to come back, and this could make a
difference in the next game for sure. Injuries are a big part of how a team
presents itself, and Bieksa has been a huge positive influence in our games in
this playoff series.
Canucks have scored a good number of goals on the power play in this series, but
last night there were very few of them, so canucks didn't have that luxury of
scoring with a man advantage, and that kept the shots on goal down, along with
the defensive style they were playing. Vineault didn't instruct them to shut it
down quite as much as they did, but it just happened that way, as chicago also
were more careful with their puck handling, and didn't take so many risks as

I think Salo will be back in the lineup in the next game. Had htey have won last night, they would probably rest him awhile longer. They pretty well have to pull out all stops now.
Heard a interview with gillis this morning, and he said that bieksa is fine, hope
he's right, and yes, salo will probably play saturday, although I wouldn't want to
see him come back too soon, then 'out' again.
Detroit played a whale of a game last night, showed anaheim where the bear
s**t in the buckwheat, thats for sure. Franzin played a wonderful game, but
one player who is without points for them so far is Datzyuk, so he will have
to get going. Hiller was pulled, but will probably start the next game.
Last night in Chicago was the game I was afraid of seeing for Canuck fans: good goaltending and defense but no offense. I know its only one game but it reminds me of most of the Canucks playoff appearances of the last 5 years or so. I think thats why some of the talk-radio fans might be reacting the way they are, Talloola.
Johan Franzen: the guy is incredible. His regular seasons may be a little bit of a let down by comparison but his playoff performances put some of the game's superstars to shame (*cough* Malkin *cough* Datsyuk *cough*). This is a man who is going to get a HUGE raise next time his contract comes up for negotiation...

He has been, and still is an amazing play off player, that's for sure. Hope Detroit
go on to win the series now. They are two and two, as they won tonight, now back to detroit, and it
looks like anaheim is on the 'limp'.
Just as Ryan Johnson said in his interview last night, they were not instructed
to play 'total' defense, as happened, he said that they 'just' weren't getting the
puck deep enough into 'chicago's' end, on many occasions, but he said vineault
just told them to play defensively responsible, but go for it when they could,
but johnson said, they didn't give themselves enough opportunities to go for
it, and also they hardly had any power plays, which has been successful for
them, so chicago adjusted their play too, and weren't so 'wreckless', as they
have been, they were also more responsible defensively.
So, now both coaches will do their adjustments before the next game, and
we will see how things change.

Pittsburgh won 5-3 last night, so now that series is tied 2-2. Carolina beat Boston 4-1 and now hold a stranglehold 3-1 game lead. Wow! What is it with #1 teams choking in series that they should have won?8O
Washington's goalie let in a couple of 'stinkers', and carolina is flying, and
cam ward is awsome.
It could have something to do with weak teams in their own division during the reg. season. Detroit racked up an inordinate number of points a few years ago when St. Louis, Chicago and Columbus were all doing very poorly. just a theory.

Couldn't begin to guess how this will all play out, and I am not sure how Bieksa
is, if he isn't 100%, and Salo isn't 100%, it does make a difference.
Mitchell had some tough periods last game, so our defense needs to 'all' be there
in their comfortable roles, with their usuall partners, to do their best.
Their defense in last game was excellent, just need to add a little more offense
to that style, and pop in a few more goals.
Sedins have to be better this game, Sundin is useless in my opinion, but just his
stature and name out there creates some buzz, at least he could win some
face offs, that would help.
All lines have to go strong, and we know chicago will be flying, BUT, they can't
fly when we don't let them.

A couple of stupid penalties, and a comedy of errors right at the end, caused this
loss. Very embarrassing on HNIC, for sure.

Vancouver sitting back with a 1 goal lead is obviously not working. They need to put pressure in the Chicago zone and keep peppering their goalie. Get at least a 2 goal lead before attempting to shut down Chicago. Being down 3-2 is better than being down 3-1(like Boston), but they need to change their mode of play.
I did, 'Out of Africa', third time I've watched it, love the photography and the music, and it is a sensitiv story, with good actors.
The Capitals need a goaltender. Varlamov has had his moments but he's inconsistent, and the Pens have too much talent on their roster to give them weakness. Ovechkin (10G, 7A in the playoffs) and Crosby (9G, 7A in the playoffs) have been outstanding: neither one deserves to lose this series, its a shame one will (I think it will be Ovie for the lack of support from the rest of the Caps).The winning goal was a lucky bounce but that's part of hockey, just as posts and crossbars are.
