There is nothing in your home that has not been touched by oil either in making it or delivering it - Every book you have read - child you have brought home from the hospital - light you turn on to read or organic muffin you have for breakfast has a trace of oil in it.

If you believe the renaissance was important, then you should be aware of the importance of Cordoba Spain. The dark ages in Europe was a golden age of scientific discovery in Islam. When Christian monarchs captured this Muslim city in 1492, European scholars had access to Cordoba's libraries and universities. This single event triggered the European renaissance.

And yet this all comes back to the printing press.......the spread of knowledge relied solely on that one invention.

without it, Islamic knowledge would have stayed sequestered with the librarians.

without it, Martin Luther would have been an unheard voice in the wilderness.

which seconds both these events to the press :)

There wasn't and still isn't a shortage of surface oil. Jed used a shotgun right? The use of it probably stretches back to when man got a handle on fire and later used on the axle and for boat sealant far earlier than 347 BCE

The 1931 Central China floods or the Central China floods of 1931 are a series of floods that occurred during the Nanjing decade in the Republic of China era. It is generally considered the deadliest natural disaster ever recorded, and almost certainly the deadliest of the 20th century and in China. The human casualties are estimated from lows of 400,000 to highs of 3.7 million to 4 million

or possibly the great influenza pandemic of 1918 that killed 50 million...
