what about the right of free speech?

I imagine someone will fight for insults towards cops being generalized as something like a hate crime since it targets a paticular group.

Which sorta makes sense, but then again, are grease monkeys gonna get the same treatment? What about any other group of workers with some silly slang terms?

I don't see how it should be allowed to have people charged for tossing insults..... whatever happened to sticks and stones? What? a Big Cop can't handle someone getting a bit pissed off at them and calling them a few names here and there?

I put up with it during my entire school life.... I'm sure they as adults can suck it up and deal with it.

They chase down people loaded on alcohol and drugs, people who steal, crack heads, people with knives, guns, bombs, hostages, stolen cars..... and so on...... and they're getting a little pissy that a few of them call them names?

I wonder why?

It's part of the job..... when you have to chase down azzholes and thwart their attempts, expect them to be a little upset. Hell, even the people who you're there to save are usually upset and tend to throw words at everybody..... so suddenly they should be charged for insulting a police officer?

What the hell is this world coming to?

Oh wait, then again, this is in Quebec, so it won't suprise me if this will pass..... you can't even spit in public there without getting in sh*t.....

talk about anal.

You are forgetting, cops were disproportionately those dishing out the insults and wedgies, not receiving them.

I don't know what it is like now, but when I lived in Montreal, the cops were some of the most brutal in Canada - except for the Vancouver 1968 Gastown cop riots.
