Well an apology just isn't going to happen. If they want the embargo to be lifted as they have been whining about year after year they are going to have to go to the table and negotiate. As we have not been great neighbors they have not been good neighbors to us.

Has anybody been a good neighbour to the US? Ever?

Puerto Rico doesn't count

Sure. Canada has been for the most part although there are a lot of d**** up there. Mexico for the most part save for immigration.

LOL

I do disagree though. I think they do want American Investments, perhaps like we have with Vietnam or any other Communist country.

I also think the Cuban Revolution was more than just a revolution against the US. It was a revolution against an oppressive government and the revolutionaries happen to be communist. Just like the war in Vietnam was more than just communism vs. capitalism... it was more a war for unification of Vietnam.

i guess I could go on and on about history and geopolitics (Vietnam, Cuba, Nicaraugua), but after reading the above, I can see it is truely a hopeless endevour. Amusing, but hopeless

When Cuba became communist, they nationized corporations and seized personal property. Effectively it was a type of theft. People who lost property have a right to be pissed. But its been more than 40 years. I'm sure Cuba should be able to negotiate some form of fair compensation and an apology.

A mitigating factor is that the Cuba's leaders, the US and other foreigners ran Cuba like a brothel and basically screwed the locals for decades. So any compensation should take that into account.

Cuba is going to stay communist for the forseeable future and I doubt Americans will get preferential treatment.

Its pointless for the US to maintain an economic embargo against Cuba for this long. It won't be a priority, but I can't see Obama normalizing relations with Cuba without some sort of concessions.

BRRRRRAVOOOO!

Very good. This is what I have been getting at but all the while battling the critics who WANT and NEED and PRAY that the US goes crawling to Cuba when it is Cuba who wants the US to lift the embargo. The US is in no hurry and there are far more important things to do than worry about Cuba. We have no relations as it is and haven't for 40+ years.

Cuba will not be in a position to dictate terms of lifting and embargo that the US set. The US will not get every demand met at the negotiating table.

Why on Earth would Cuba want the embargo lifted? So you can cripple the governments hold on power?

Ya, im sure they are begging for that "Oh please undermine us, we want it SOOOO badly"

No one in Cuba wants the Embargo lifted, they keep putting demands on the USA because they know its ridiculously easy to control US policy like a puppet.

Make blatant demands as if the USA is a villain, and even if its a good idea to do as asked the US government will do the exact opposite.

Nationalization hurt investors. United Fruit hurt people. If we're going to investigate facts ... let's look at ALL of them. It started long before Castro and any revolution.

This was too easy to find....

U.N. Condemns U.S. Embargo Of Cuba, Cuban-Americans Hope A New U.S. President Will Change The 37-Year-Old Policy - CBS News

A snippet... but fear not... there is plenty US bashing in the article for you folks!

Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, the last speaker before the U.N. vote, told the General Assembly that it will be up to the next U.S. president “to admit” if the embargo is “a failed policy.” Nevertheless, he reiterated that the United States “shall never bring the Cuban people to their knees."

He refers to the embargo “the main obstacle to Cuba’s development” and specifically to U.S. trade sanctions as the biggest obstacle to Cuba’s recovery from hurricanes Gustav and Ike, which caused an estimated $5 billion to $8 billion worth of damage to the island, wiping out food crops and destroying the homes of around half a million people.
Fast Fact

The U.S. embargo has cost Cuba $230 million a year in foreign investment and caused the country more than $93 billion in economic damage since its inception, according to Cuban officials.

Your right Zzach... what do they know.

Partially true, yes,

But seriously, you don't actually believe if the US can freely trade and invest in a country 90 miles off shore that it will stay communist?

Well at least you admit it. Nevertheless, that will most likely be the first and easiest part to be lifted and Americans will fly in by the thousands.

I am not sure if you are being facetious here. Why couldn't they? They do it with Vietnam and China who are thousands of miles away. There will be concessions on both sides and I am sure a deal can be struck.

And when it is... I'll see you in Havana!

Havana is OK if that's what you're into, but Varadero is the playground!!! :p

Ahhh... We have so much to learn but if that is the place then you will surely see us there.

How much are rooms there per night on average?

What about turning Cuba into the next Spring Break destination? I can just see the MTV stage up on the Plaza de' Revolucion.

China is communist in name only, while those in power in Cuba are the original revolutionaries who very much believe in communism.

China would have very different relations with America if it was still run by Mao Zedong after all.
