Reinstatement considered

Support

Some Democratic legislators have expressed interest in reinstituting the Fairness Doctrine,[18] although no one has introduced legislation to do so since 2005.
In June 2007, Senator Richard Durbin (Democrat of Illinois) said, "It’s time to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine,” [19] an opinion shared by his Democratic colleague, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.[20] However, according to Marin Cogan of The New Republic in late 2008, "Senator Durbin's press secretary says that Durbin has 'no plans, no language, no nothing. He was asked in a hallway last year, he gave his personal view'—that the American people were served well under the doctrine—'and it's all been blown out of proportion.' " [21]
On June 24, 2008, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (who represents most of San Francisco, California) told reporters that her fellow Democratic representatives did not want to forbid reintroduction of the Fairness Doctrine, adding “the interest in my caucus is the reverse.” When asked by John Gizzi of Human Events, “Do you personally support revival of the ‘Fairness Doctrine?’”, the Speaker replied "Yes." [22]
On October 22, 2008, Senator Jeff Bingaman, Democrat of New Mexico, told a conservative talk radio host in Albuquerque, New Mexico, "I would want this station and all stations to have to present a balanced perspective and different points of view," and "All I’m saying is that for many, many years we operated under a Fairness Doctrine in this country, and I think the country was well-served. I think the public discussion was at a higher level and more intelligent in those days than it has become since." [23]

Opposition

The Fairness Doctrine has been strongly opposed by prominent libertarians and conservatives who view it as an attempt to regulate or mandate certain types of speech on the airwaves. Editorials in The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Times have said that Democratic attempts to bring back the Fairness Doctrine have been made largely in response to and contempt for the successes of conservative talk radio.[24] [25]

Well he wouldn't say it unless he believed in what was written, would he?

Therefore it makes little difference to me if he wrote it or didn't..... he's preaching it to the world as if it is his, so all flack can go to him either way.

And if he doesn't believe what he says..... then he's a sell out and uses his name and image for whatever people tell him to use it for..... which is even more sad if you ask me.

But then again..... he's part of the whole hollywood thing, so neither would suprise me.

He still sucks though :p

You're honestly saying that, even though he didn't say or write these things, it doesn't matter, you're still claiming he must agree with them? What the hell are you talking about?

I do agree with you as far as the President is concerned BUT the US Congress is talking about instituting what they call the "Fairness Doctrine". The Fairness Doctrine is directed at Talk Radio here in the US. Without question, talk radio is all conservative as liberal hosts do not do well for some reason. Air America was formed for just that reason... which in and of itself was a disaster. So since they cannot STOP Talk Radio the Fairness Doctrine will force radio stations to hire equal amounts of liberal talk show hosts or face penalties.

Let me find some info.

Radio Stations are business's. Find a Liberal (Democrat?) DJ with opinions
that people actually want to hear, and this is a non-issue. Enforcing this B.S.
with legislation just means that the listener will listen when he wants to, and
will tune into another station if something isn't interesting to him/her....;-)

Advertisers will pay to have their commercials aired when people are actually
listening to the radio....who'll foot the bill for the air time and lost revenue if
this 'Fairness Doctrine' is forced upon these radio stations? I think any and
all financial losses should be covered directly by the Democratic Party. That
would truly be a 'Fairness Doctrine.' 8O

You posted:

To quote Rooney: "I suppose it's not important, but I hate the fact that people think I've been writing these things. That's hurtful to me."

^ Does that mean he get's someone else to write his material for his show or is that in reference towards him being misquoted on the internet like the above in which had no connection whatsoever to him? (Never said it or wrote it?)

I based my response to option one..... if it is option two, I stand corrected.

But I still hate the guy and think he sucks, so that doesn't change that fact. :p

It's #2 Prax. He didn't write it, he never said it one air. It really had nothing to do with him.

Ok.... I still hate the guy though.... just as I hate Rex Murphy.

Sure they may say some things that I completely agree with..... If I ain't getting paid to rant off like a lunatic, why should they? :angry3:

Because you do yours for free on here!!

Become a regular caller into whatever that newsradio station is, and maybe you'll get a gig being a daily loudmouth. Can't be any worse than the ones they have. Then you can hire me as a regular guest. Although I know you'll find it hard to believe, I can be obnoxious, too!
