If you were the Governor General, what would you do?

Vanni, here's a guess and it's only a guess. The GG is apointed by the PM. The GG's advisor
is the PM. This might be an overly simple explenation, but I might not be too far off either...

There's nothing Harper could have done to her to jeopardize her position in any way...what's he going to do, fire her for not playing his game...Ottawa would roast him alive in a heartbeat...

She had his balls in her hand, ripe for the rippin'...something more substantial than her job must have been offered to keep his sack intact...

So a Liberal appointed GG was bought off by the conservative PM? Not likely.

Not likely indeed...but we shall see...;-)

Something convinced her that it would be prudent to forestall a confidence vote, an extremely dangerous precedent to set...

From this day on, any government that faces a confidence vote and feels a little timid can prorogue Parliament to avoid getting ****canned...

Exactly.

The woman was actually doing a pretty fair job.
Light years ahead of Adrianne Clarkson and her elitist hubby.

Michelle Jean was becoming very popular in Europe and most nations with a large ethnic population.

And now this?
She cannot win.

History dictates that she try to follow the will of the sitting PM.
But lets face it no matter what she does people will howl.

People should cut her some slack.
She didn't cause this nightmare.
Trex

I won't cut her any slack just as I won't cut any of the other political members slack. She made the worst call out of all the options available to her. She didn't create this nightmare, but she just added onto it by not making any real decision on the matter (Which she will eventually have to make one way or another)

I couldn't care less what other nations think of her.... her attention should be to this nation and its people. She shouldn't be catering to the Prime Minister anytime he comes around asking for something..... her job is to make sure that everything in our government is kept sound and that the Prime Minister doesn't get out of hand....

which is why she controls our military, which is why she makes the calls for elections, delays in the government or whether or not a coalition can be formed....... her duty is not to the Prime Minister, it is to Canada.

If it's not then abolish the position of Gov. General because it doesn't benifit our nation.

Agreed.

What little faith I had in this country and this democracy has been thrown out the window over this decision.

I never said that Harper could jeopardize her, but in reality it's not like she's a Constitutional
Lawyer or anything...She's a former CBC Announcer and her adviser is......the sitting PM.

There's the key in what you are saying..... he's her adviser.... not her dictator..... she is supposed to make the decisions, not him. Her role is to protect and uphold our democracy as it is, not cater and loophole it for the Prime Minister because he's in a tough bind.
