Then let them go. What industrial base does Quebec have? Once business has to pony up or shut up, the people will know they've been had.
Quebec separation would hurt both sides, but it isn't exaclty third world either.

BILINGUALS? what the hell does that mean? Watch how you answer........
OK, I'll be specific. French-English bilinguals. I thought it would be obvious that I wasn't referring to English-Chinese bilinguals, or French-Arabic bilinguals. The reason I wouldn't see a problem with this is that they wouldn't put a burden on the local government, police, hospitals etc. for translation and interpretation services.
Common sense I thought.
They don't have dual citizenship now. No concessions. Nobody can have things both ways. Trying to please everyone is what got Canada into this muddle.
Have you thought about it or are you on autopilot?
If the ROC goes English only, and Quebec French only, certainly it would be in everyone's best interest to keep trade flowing between the two countries, and to have all kinds of buraucracy requiring visas for this and visas for that would simply slow trade down causing more unemployment. By allowing dual citizenship to anyone who can pass the appropriate tests would eliminate this buraucracy, thus allowing compaies to hire such people to negotiate deals between the two new countries, thus allowing for freer trade and business to flourish.
Especially in a recession we certainly don't want to slam the brakes on whatever spending is left!
So again I ask, had you really thought about this from an economic standpoint or was t just your ethnic autopilot kicking in?
How does opposing public funding for parties equate with dictatorship?
Are you proposing we finance independent candidates at $1.95/vote too? If not, then to cut spending altogether would seem the just thing to do.
Speaking of some coalition stimulating the economy, has anyone thought of HOW they would do this?
Not sure about the Dippers or the Bloc-heads, but I am 100% certain that various commercial/industrial buddies of the Glibs would be ecstatic over how much the Glibs would stimulate the economy for them at the exclusion of small business and whoever else.
It would be no time at all before the 3 of them would be fighting... It will never work.
Of course there would be a lot of arguing. We've had decades upon decades of confrontation to overcome. Eventually, however, I am sure that cooperation would overcome and contentions would be minimized. Never say never. It would be no time at all before the 3 of them would be fighting... It will never work.
Being in bed with the 'enemy' (bloc) is being in bed with the enemy. Guaranteed it will bite both the fiberals and the ndpers in the butt.Once again, you are assuming they will join forces as one united party.. An agreement in principle is all that will be required to continue parliament. Items such as Non-Confidence voting bills are the only stumbling bloc that could bring down this government. It scares people that parties may have to actually compromise to make things happen. What a concept..

So that $1.95 per vote can fund and Independent,
