Oh, it's a long story, I did the reply to your post as a 'quote', but it wouldn't
complete for some reason, so I did it as a reply, then they both showed up.
Beats me, haven't got a clue sometimes on a computer.;-)

Those darned computers can be finnicky sometimes.;-)

Luongo had a great game again tonight, along with our solid defense.

score was 4-2 final score.

Dimitra had 3 assists. Mitchell, Wellwood, Kesler, and D. Sedin all scored.

We are on top of our division again, unless Minnesota goes on to win against Columbus.

Haven't been around for a few days, my husband is recovering from open heart surgery,
doing well, so we are in Victoria till Tuesday.

For the Canucks…

Willie Mitchell probably won’t replace Kevin Bieksa’s offensive prowess from the back end on a long term basis, but the 31-year old rearguard definitely has shown he can bring that goal scorer’s touch out every once in a while. On Saturday against the Leafs, Mitchell picked up his first goal of the season on a pretty feed from Alex Burrows while logging a team-leading 23:51 in ice-time. The 6’3”, 210 lbs. defenceman has been Mr. Dependable for the Canucks this season, being one of only three D-men to suit up in all 17 games while averaging close to 22 minutes a game.

The Port McNeill, BC-native currently leads all Canucks in the plus-minus category with a plus-ten rating despite seeing the opposition’s top forward lines on a routine basis. Named an Alternate Captain prior to the start of the season, Mitchell will be looking to keep the Islanders top guns off the scoresheet while perhaps adding to his own totals. His seven points (1-6-7) on the season are tied for second among Canucks defenceman, behind only Kevin Bieksa’s 11. In six career games against the Islanders, Mitchell has two points (1-1-2) and four penalty minutes.

I watched and listened to Don Cherry on hockey night in canada, during intermission Sat. night. What a complete bore and an idiot he is.
He sat there and trashed Mike Gillis for not being able to see the talent in Kyle Welwood, and
what a stupid move it was to send him to the minors.

Just to refresh memories, when Kyle Welwood was sent through to the minors (Manitoba), he
was still not in good shape physically, and hadn't shown anything exciting at all, during the
pre season, AND if he had of sent him there, being in the shape and doing as well as he is
doing now, he would have been snatched up quickly by another team, (he wasn't), then when
he recalled him shortly after, because of injuries, another team would have snatched him off
of waivers, on the way back, (they didn't), so Cherry again made a fool of himself, by trying
to make a fool of someone else, I just wonder when CBC will kick his butt out of there, so we
can listen and watch someone with some common sense, hockey knowledge and a little
ability to study a situation and tell the truth, and not try to make himself look 'brillient',
as he's not fooling anyone.

Talloola I liked that Demetra got three assists in his first game back. I'd like to think he will get better over the next few games.

Yeah, he is playing well, and he scored the only goal we have in this game with the islanders.
Looks like we will be going into overtime. Canucks had a great first period, terrible second
period, and pretty even the third.

We'll see how the overtime goes.

I've been running around a bit and I didn't see the game. I logged on to Canucks.com and saw the highlights. The Canucks had a few good chances but they couldn't get a bounce for whatever reason.
As I and others have said, you don't win many games in the NHL by scoring one or two goals. Luongo did his job but the team needs some consistant scoring. Do they still have that ten million lying around?

It's true they are having trouble scoring right now, but I don't look at 'just' that stat.
They have had lots of good scoring chances, just not going in, and last nights game
was the same.
Not quite like it was last year, I see more offensive jump, but Bernier isn't the player
I thought he was going to be, but there are others who are better than I thought they
would be, and Raymond is in a 'funk' right now, trying to do too much, he must settle
down and have more patience, and use his team mates more, he will come out of that,
it seems to be frustration right now, coaches have to help him.
Dimitra came back looking really good, so that is a plus.
We were also short two top defensemen last night, Edler will be back for Wednesdays
game.

Game highlights
The Canucks opened the game at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum last night with high energy. The team pulled ahead early, but were not able to hold their one goal lead as the Islanders tied it in the second to push overtime, before winning it in the shootout.

Head coach Alain Vigneault did some last minute line shuffling to start yesterday’s game against the New York Islanders and it paid off quickly. Pavol Demitra in his second game back after fracturing a rib and missing 10 games, scored the opening goal 49 seconds into the first period playing alongside Henrik and Daniel Sedin.

Unfortunately the Canucks came out flat in the second period and the Islanders capitalized.

"The second period was one of the worst we've had in quite a while," said Mattias Ohlund. "We kept turning the puck over and most chances they had, we gave to them by making mistakes and being sloppy with the puck.

"When Louie plays like this, you want to give him more than one goal, and we obviously have to find a way. Our power play (0-for-4) wasn't very good."

The Islanders’ Frans Nielsen was the lone scorer in the shootout. His shot beat Roberto Luongo who made 34 saves in regulation and overtime, and earned the third star of the game. Kyle Wellwood, Demitra, and Alex Burrows were unable to score for Vancouver in the shootout.

"[Shootouts are] great when we win. They suck when we lose," said Luongo. "It was a good move. The guy [Nielsen] gets it quick under the bar like that and that's how you beat goalies in the shootout."

The team is refocusing and preparing for tomorrow’s game against the New York Rangers, where they will meet former team mate Markus Naslund

Islanders a distant memory to hot goalie Luongo
November 18 Newsday

"To Roberto Luongo, the mental distance he has put between himself and Long Island is as great as the physical distance between Nassau Coliseum and GM Place on the opposite side of the continent in Vancouver. He was the Islanders ' goaltender of the future when he was drafted fourth overall in 1997, but the "future " consisted of just 24 games during the 1999-2000 season. Then he was gone to Florida on draft day 2000 in the deal that cleared the decks for former general manager Mike Milbury to take goaltender Rick DiPietro No. 1 overall. Luongo returned to Nassau Coliseum last night for the first time since he was with the Panthers three seasons ago. "That was a long time ago, " Luongo said. ..."
Will Luongo play all four games on road trip?
November 18 Vancouver Province

"The Vancouver Canucks are playing four games in six nights and the big question is how many of them will Roberto Luongo backstop? The conventional thinking is the stellar stopper will need a break at some point and that a meeting with the New York Rangers on Wednesday is the best bet to give Curtis Sanford his first start in a month. The Canucks play the next night in Minnesota and would need Luongo to keep them in what could be one of those tough one-goal tilts with the Wild. Sanford last appeared Oct. 17 in Buffalo where he faced 31 shots in a 5-2 setback. Then again, Luongo could suit for all games on this trip if his workload is kept within reason and his powers of persuasion come into ..."
Luongo plays like he owns the place
November 18 Vancouver Province columnist Ben Kuzma

"This was supposed to be the house that Roberto Luongo built. He would never admit it, but he probably wanted to torch the old Nassau Coliseum barn on Monday. Once lauded as the goaltender of the future for the New York Islanders, Luongo was shoved aside when former general manager Mike Milbury made Rick DiPietro the first overall choice in the 2000 entry draft and anointed him the starter. Adios, Luongo. Adios, Kevin Weekes. Luongo nearly gained a measure of revenge Monday, but the Vancouver Canucks workhorse was still saddled with the loss in a 2-1 shootout setback to open a four-game road trip. Frans Nielsen 's backhander was the lone goal of the skills competition to put a sour end to ..."

Vancouver Canucks - Recap: Vancouver @ NY Rangers - 11/19/2008

Canucks 6, Rangers 3

PIC OF THE GAME
(click for full view)

NEW YORK (AP) -Roberto Luongo came out on top in his busiest night of the season, yet the goalie duel everyone expected against Henrik Lundqvist never materialized.

Alex Burrows scored two of Vancouver's five goals against Lundqvist, and the Canucks feasted on turnovers Wednesday night in a 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers.

The matchup of Vezina Trophy favorites Lundqvist and Luongo fizzled as the New York netminder was gone 5:33 into the second period. He allowed five goals on 17 shots.

"You never know in this game," said Luongo, who made a season-high 39 saves. "Things happen."

Vancouver's first four goals resulted from Rangers turnovers, and the last was scored while the Canucks were on a two-man advantage.

Kyle Wellwood scored a breakaway 4:16 in and Burrows followed with another - while the Canucks were short-handed - to make it 2-0 at 9:38. A pass to Rangers defenseman Wade Redden bounced over his stick, creating the chance.

"The turning point in the game," said Rangers coach Tom Renney, who held a 10-minute postgame closed-door meeting. "I'm not going to suggest we were doing everything right at that point, but that was kind of the turning point and unfortunately it was really early."

The barrage got worse in the second period. Burrows took advantage of yet another Rangers giveaway and netted his sixth goal 1:23 in. Ryan Johnson pushed the lead to 4-0 58 seconds later.

Three Rangers penalties followed, giving the Canucks a pair of lengthy 5-on-3 advantages.

"That's our goal. Get on the forecheck and pressure their D men," Burrows said.

Vancouver appeared to score again, but Rangers defenseman Michal Rozsival swept the puck off the goal line just before it fully crossed. New York got a reprieve after the long video review, but the good fortune didn't last as the Canucks made it 5-1 just 20 seconds later at 5:33 when Pavol Demitra ripped in his fourth of the season and second in two games.

Lundqvist skated right to the bench after Renney summoned him with his finger. He was replaced by Steve Valiquette, who stopped all 15 shots he faced. Lundqvist, who started for the 14th time in 15 games, had gone 12 without allowing more than two goals.

The Canucks were all over them in the first and second periods. The Ranger's offence started to work later in the game but it was too little, too late. Luongo had his usual brilliant game. I hope they can give Luongo a rest sometime soon. Their back-up goaltender is pretty good. Be good to get him some game time.

Back up will be playing tomorrow night, they announced that on team 1040 today.
Burrows was awsome tonight, and also first star, wellwood 2nd, and hanson 3rd, and
they weren't picked by the canucks media. I thought Luongo should have been a star.

For the Canucks…

After watching a popular former Canuck play against his team last night in New York, Pavol Demitra gets his turn to face a former club when he makes his first visit to the Xcel Energy Center since leaving the Wild and signing with the Canucks during the off-season. The 33-year old was acquired by the Wild in a trade from the LA Kings during the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and spent the past two seasons in Minnesota where he appeared in 139 games amassing 118 points (40-78-118) and 42 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 11 playoff games with the Wild, recording seven points (2-5-7), while leading Minnesota to their first ever divisional championship last season.

Despite missing ten games with a rib contusion, the native of Dubnica, Slovakia appears to not have missed a beat. He has five points (2-3-5) in three games since returning to the lineup and has recorded points in four consecutive games discounting the ten games he missed with his injury. He also has goals in two consecutive games coming into tonight. Prior to joining the Wild, Demitra had appeared in 14 career games versus Minnesota notching 10 points (5-5-10) and 10 penalty minutes. He missed Vancouver’s previous game against the Wild back on November 8th at GM Place. For the Wild…

One player the Canucks won’t want to give too many glorious scoring chances to is Pierre-Marc Bouchard if they intend to pick up two points against the Wild tonight. The 24-year old was easily Minnesota’s best player, aside from netminder Niklas Backstrom, in Minnesota’s 2-0 loss to the Canucks back on November 8th leading his team with four shots on net and having several glorious scoring opportunities only to be stymied each time by Roberto Luongo. Bouchard has had a history of putting up numbers against the Canucks. Last year, he led all Wild players with nine points (3-6-9) against Vancouver.

The Sherbrooke, QC-native will be hoping a big game against the Canucks will help bring his offensive game out of hiding. After setting a career high in assists (50) and points (63) last season, the 5’10”, 173 lbs. centre has managed just five points (2-3-5) in 13 games played this season. He also missed three games from October 14 to 18 with an undisclosed lower body injury. In 31 career games against the Canucks, Bouchard has collected 21 points (

Canucks played a great tonight, a toss up who was going to score the first goal, then Sanford
let in an easy one, oh oh, thought that was a negative sign, but not at all, canucks stormed
back, sanford played a real solid game, just that one gliche, dimitra and the sedins look
real good together, hope they leave them as a line.
We won it 3-2
We're now 3 points up on minny and calgary for the division lead.

Now on to Pittsburg for Saturday.
