Nunavut has decided not to change the number of polar bears it allows to be killed in the Baffin Bay region. The quota will remain at 105 bears.

The move rejects calls for tighter restrictions on hunting to allow the populations to recover. The move is controversial because it includes the number of animals that are available for both Inuit hunting and international big-game hunters.

There have been warnings from environmentalists that the decision may lead to international boycotts against Nunavut.

Earlier this year the U.S. listed polar bears as a threatened species and blocked the import of the animals body parts by hunters.

No, it doesn't. The health of the planet should not be sold. There's a reason greed is considered a sin...

I think we should sport shoot international trophy hunters.

yeah, I'm in on that...or how about this...the hunters get the same weapons the polar bears have...claws and teeth and that's it.

Hunting polar bears for sport and $$ ,when the species is at risk ...is not the native way..Natives say government count is wrong..I say pay natives and government conservation officers to Prove it..!Then enforce the results..!

The Innuit got sold on global warming untill the govt. cut the polar quota on them.
Thats what the internet and Al Gore can do to you.

They organise what they call civil disobediance by hunting them anyways and calling it a defense kill. This has been going on for at least 2 years and they even advertised for peeps to participate in the local papers all across the Kivallik.

Polar bears. I think we should sport shoot international trophy hunters.

Reminds me of a poem I read in ‘Mad’ magazine years ago. It was about tiger hunting. A hunter goes hunting for five tigers. He hunts and kills the four of them. As to the last one, the poem ends as follows:

The last one got the hunter
Aren’t you kind of glad?

It was followed by the picture of tiger sitting in a chair in his living room, with the hunter rug at his feet.

Earlier this year the U.S. listed polar bears as a threatened species and blocked the import of the animals body parts by hunters.

Not only USA, CBC News, Europe also has banned the import all the polar bear products. And it has threatened Canada with more sanctions unless the polar bear quota is decreased. Now that the quota is the same, it remains to be seen if they take any further action.
