Well, that's just it, a little leg wound here in Canada generally wouldn't warrant a trip to the doctor let alone the E.R. Them Brits have a lot of toughening up to do.
If you can see the femur or thigh bone as Clarkson explained, absolutely you should go see a doctor. It should be stitched up. Tetanus shot is a good idea too.
Indeed, bones should only be visible with an X-Ray. Anything else requires medical intervention.
