If I had a dime for every time I cried about the Liberal taking over this nation and making it socialist, I'd be rich.

Thats where we are heading SOCIALISM. The gov. is taking control of everything, half our $$ goes to them and they run all our services.

Its not there 100% but trust me it will be eventually.

Liberal people should be taken out to the back of the barn and shot and mutilated. (attempt at humor)
Taxes have been coming down in this country. Privatization is on the rise. We're heading in the right direction. Our Canada Pension Plan is healthy. Many would call that socialist but lets not forget the Shrub admin trying to borrow 2 trillion dollars from the treasury to catch up on something similar. We've done a lot of things quite well. Can it be improved. Certainly.

And do tell Kreskin, why can't Liberals like yourself stop themselves from using words like "redneck"? Really what am I supposed to be a "blackneck"? Are you a blackneck or something?

Talk about one big bloody yawn.... or as I like to refer to it as, a moron.

Big hint for ya, just because you don't understand the difference between left and right, conservative and liberal, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Really, read up on it.

Put the drink down, go and spend sometime with your kids...they might teach you something. And when you’re done with that I expect an apology for using racially explicit terms with me like redneck. K?
Same old shallow pigeon-holed bs. Apology? You have got to friggin kidding. You've called me a liberal several hundred times and I refer to you as a redneck once and you have the gall to ask for an apology. Quite frankly I'll tell you in explicit terms to shove it.

Although I wasn't aware being called a "liberal" was derogatory I do suggest you prove I've called you that "several hundred times".

I want an apology, Kreskin, and I'm not kidding.

You just have to say it. I don't take "redneck" lightly like you do.

I don't know your political affiliations but are you offended by the term liberal?

I am sort of going "What? Did he just li off a mod?"

But Jay is a legacy member obviously with 8000 some posts.

Anyways Liberal is a political term for people of certain values

I guess it can be stereotyping a bit.

Redneck, is an insult term, basically calling one ignorant, and judgemental.

Being the better man that I am and everything....

I'm sorry I called you a drunk, Kreskin.....sometimes we misjudge the events surrounding us.

(not to suggest there is anything wrong with being a drunk or anything...)

like SSM, abortion, etc.
This is the kind of comment that scares the shyte out of me. The gov't has no business being in anyones bedroom. They have no business telling women what they can or cannot do with their bodies. Period. To suggest otherwise is to support descrimination and IMHO, fascism.
Oh and also, who is ashamed of being called a Lib. or Conservative.

I don't know westy, I get pretty riled up when someone calls my a Liberal for my views on SSM, abortion, healthcare, social services, etc.

We're not headed for it, we already are a socialist-monarchist-democracy(only in Canada:) )
And what's wrong with that? Our tax dollars do get back to us...or do you not enjoy socialized medical care?

Seems to me that the NDP lowered the unemployment rate in BC one time by boosting the ranks of the gov't employee sector. They also did a few things to kill mining and forestry jobs while retraining people to do service work like cooking and cleaning and dropped the jobless rate that way.
So if someone brags about lowering their jobless rate, the picture can still be a very gloomy one.
But if the US actually has increased its workforce with meaningful jobs, good for them.
Um, there is very little that is democratic in Canada.
Besides that, I have noticed recently, that our socialized medical care is in a heap of disrepair. What used to take it a few days to repair (my kidney stones, for example), now takes weeks and a lot more bucks.

Mexico has an "unemployment rate" of 3.2% and their tax rate is 18.2%. How could it get any better? Why are they risking death to get out?

Perhaps the millions of Mexicans that flee to the US for jobs would have something to do with it.

If we could send a few million unemployed Canadians down south, we would have an unemployment rate of 2%.

Unemployment down, wage slavery up. So a bunch of burger flipping jobs was created, big deal, the economy is falling into recesion thanks to the Chicago school of economic bull****.

that chart confuses me.

Taxes are to much, plain and simple.

Liberal bleeding hearts should get lost. If I saved 18 000 per year, I could afford my own health care! And maybe save something too!

18000 wouldn't cover a simple day surgery, no hospital admission included. I had my gall bladder out (takes about 45 minutes, I was in the hospital for a few hours total). The bill was over 20K. Luckily I had insurance so I didn't have to pay that much :). I saw the (ongoing) bill for one of the babies we've had in our unit since his birth. He's already at over 2.5 million. That's in about 6 months. I know you always would choose life over death, so would you be willing to pay that much for your baby to receive medical care if you could save 18 000 a year in taxes? Hardly seems worth it. Fortunately neither Canada nor the US would ask parents to make such a decision.

I found it interesting to see the single tax rates between the US and Canada were so similar. I've told people before that my take home rate is about the same here as it was in Canada, but they never seem to believe me. I'm going to have to send them that table:) . I'm in a sort of high tax area by US standards, but I think it's well worth it to live here.

But how much do you pay per year for your insurance? That was the point I'm sure.

The $18,000 in tax savings could afford anyone the cadillac of all health care services for 2 or 3 families.

Do you have some stats to back up your cliams?

The US is the richest nation in earth's history and all they do is flip burgers?

Sounds like a lousy health care policy to me

It may have to do with your 'temporary status' Tracy - that you are not getting some more long term and certainly more advantageous benefits.

My niece has had two knee replacements and has not paid for anything over and above her monthly premium, nor has she received a bill over the past two years, nor has the premium gone up.

My husband never received a bill for his cancer while hospitalized for evaluations and testing.

I have been evaluated aggressively since January and nothing has changed with the cost of medications, apparatus I must use now, or specialist visits which are over and above the primary care internist as well as CT, MRI and other tests necessary to monitor the progress.

A third of the US economy is government spending.

That's hardly the Chicago School.

Which, BTW, is pretty widespread in conventional economics taught today.

Why? Because much of it is correct.

Or pay 29.1% like the US. I think we get an ok bang for our buck.

According to the OECD, government spending accounts for something like 33% of the US economy and 36% of Canada's. However, taxes as a percentage of the economy are something like 31% for the US and 39% for Canada, which means Canada is running a surplus and America a deficit.

I live in a low tax state and make a comfortable living. I estimated that I paid about 25% of my income in taxes - that's all taxes, including federal income tax, gas tax, state sales tax, property tax, etc.
