In scripture the fig tree does NOT represent Israel.

The fig tree represents a fig tree.

In literature I always thought a figure represented what the reader decided it represented. One of the reasons it was hard to fail Literature in school, as long as you had justification.

If you believe that saying a few Latin words over your pancakes in the morning turns them into the body of Elvis Presley, you have lost your mind. But if you believe the same thing about a plate of crackers and Jesus, you're just a Catholic.

Hey Dex. Your name came up at work recently. A coworker was conducting an eye exam and asked about the OD, OS and OU acronyms. I told her about my online friend Dexter Sinister and the Latin origins of your avatar. "Avatar" is Hindu in origin and refers to the "descent" of a deity in a biological form. I read recently that one of the influences in Sam Harris' life is Buddhism. Funny how so much of our everyday lives stems from our thirst for the divine.

I think you're grasping at straws, I have no thirst for the divine, not believing it exists, and it plays no part in my life. Dexter and sinister are simply the Latin for right and left respectively and I chose them as together being indicative of balance, and the image under my name was motivated by Carl Sagan's use of the phrase "Science as a candle in the dark" as the subtitle of his book, The Demon-Haunted World.

Just greeting an online friend and voicing observations about our shared human nature, Dex.

I really want to know the last day cause for 25 days before I will run up one
hell of a Visa Bill. I will let God pay for it.
Islam is about to find itself in one hell of a war for survival if they are not careful.
The last time zealot fascists got on their high horse and the world had enough
we know what happened to Mr Hitler don't we.
Perhaps W was right these guys are going to hear from the rest of the woeld
real soon.
As for the religion of peace the following should be considered if they preach
violence from the pulpit they should be charged with crimes and their property
taken as proceeds of crime. For those who speak against violence we should
be accepting them as fellow citizens as we would any other group but it is time
for that great silent majority in that community to come forward and speak out
Last days my foot this is nonsense and fear mongering at its worst

That's not how I read it. Your posting style has led me to believe you always have another motive than the one you express, and in this case it's explaining my avatar and screen name as indicating we have something in common that we don't. I'm an atheist, you're a biblical literalist, which means among other things that we each think the other is deluded. Obviously one of us is wrong. Hint: Tecumsehsbones knows which one it is.

How well does the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth square with the spirit of taqiyya, Mahan?

Comforter is the Paraclete translation . It's Clear paraclete isn't Holy spirit and many people know this in the past that's why some of them claimed they are Paraclete like Mani

"There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power." (2 Timothy 3:1-5 NIV)

Is this a prediction for the first century? Our day? Both?

What a silly preoccupation with morbidity. There will be no end of days. If you are so obsessed with the end, why not just kill yourself and get it over with. I have a friend who says he would be only too happy to help people get to heaven faster.

"Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." (2 Peter 3:3-4 NIV)

Both Paul and Peter reference "last days". To what do they refer?

Your personal death. People have been waiting for the end of days for 2000 years. Every year is going to be THE year. The problem lies with people's interpretation of biblical prophesy. 99% of Christians and Muslims have no idea where their books came from or why they were translated the way they are. The bible was written, translated and interpreted by men and subject to the failings of men. It is a waste of time to be waiting for the end because you miss out on living in the present. There is only now. The past is a bad memory and the future is a dream. Be here now is the only thing that makes sense.

"In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it." (Isaiah 2:2 NIV)

"Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days." (Hosea 3:5 NIV)

"In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it." (Micah 4:1 NIV)

Ancient Jewish scribes Isaiah, Hosea and Micah also reference "the last days".
