Steel is going to have to replace wood or they're going to denude that last few precious stands of European oak to re-build it. Why not a steel structure above the Gothic vaulting? It will be a relevant part of the long history of the building.
Where was the asbestos cladding over all that precious wood?? They have enough pics that the steel replacement would look like the original timber, right down to the dust. Do they know dust is a fire hazard when found in enclosed spaces and it is microns in size?

I was walking through very large forests in Europe last Spring, they’ve got plenty of trees to make enough timbers for the roof. What they don’t have is big, old growth trees so they will have to use laminated beams for the roof. Laminated beams are much stronger than non-laminated.

Fuktards, such as yourself and found in the 'loco collective' never look inside to see if that is where the problem is. No wonder it remains a lifelong problem/mystery rather than they meet more idiots in their life than the 'normal number in a Sask sanitarium'
That didn't make sense either.

900 years of History..

The coronation of Napoleon as Emperor of the French took place on Sunday December 2, 1804 at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, a Revolution and 2 world wars..

Sad Day..

They say it wasn't terrorism.. if it was, there wouldn't be a Muslim alive in France after this.. so of course it was an accident. sure it was...

In Iraq, between the fall of Mosul in June 2014 and February 2015, ISIL had plundered and destroyed at least 28 historical religious buildings

While French firefighters were putting out the destructive blaze at the Notre Dame Cathedral, another holistic site was also up in flames. Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is among the holiest sites in Islam and was built almost 1,800 years ago, was struck by blaze while the monumental Catholic Church was also devastated with fire.

The fire is said to have started in the Al-Marwani Prayer Hall - also known as Solomon's Stables - part of the same compound as Al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock. Fortunately, firemen of the Islamic Waqf department of the city were able to control the fire before any harm was done to the individuals or the other prayer halls. While the cause remains unknown, sources claim that the fire could have been ignited accidentally by children who were near the prayer hall at the time.

Steel doesn't burn ... or at least, not in that temperature range.

On the lighter side of the news - President You-Know-Who tweeted (seriously)that France might want to use water bombers to put out the fire.
The French Civil Security agency did respond to Trump’s tweet, issuing one of their own to say, “Hundreds of firemen of the Paris Fire Brigade are doing everything they can to bring the terrible #NotreDame fire under control. All means are being used, except for water bombing aircraft which, if used, could lead to the collapse of the entire structure of the cathedral.”
lol

Of course, officials just don't want to say Muslims started the fire.. if they did Natzweiler-Struthof would be firing up the ovens, not for Jews this time.. ;)

am suspicious of the fire simply because there have been over 400 church fires in France over the past year and apparently there were no workmen on the site that day. However, it could be an accident too so we'll simply have to wait until the investigation is over. Hopefully, there will be no political interference in said investigation and we will know exactly how it happened.

Oxy-acetylene torches start more fires ...

One of our submarines was set on fire by one of those in a dockyard in Victoria a few weeks back. I big fire started by one of those in my memory was that of the huge geodesic dome from Expo 67. The framework is still there as a tribute.

In other news — Notre Dame cathedral was constructed in the 1100s over an existing temple to the goddess Isis, the Egyptian universal mother whose cult flourished from England to Sudan to Syria to Siberia and who was the most widely worshipped deity of the ancient world for two thousand years. If you look closely, you can find a hint of her name in the word 'Paris,' named after the Parisii people who were themselves Isis worshippers. Shrines to Isis covered the ancient world — hundreds in France alone — and featured central images of her, carved out of black stone, in which she was often shown nursing an infant child (Horus). Many of the black madonna shrines of Europe were former Isis shrines. Notre Dame was no different — in fact the central image of Isis remained installed in Notre Dame's Abbey of St. Germaine for a full three hundred years after the cathedral's completion. Parisians worshipped Isis as Mary until a cardinal in the 1500s had the idol destroyed. But many madonna shrines in Europe and the near east still contain ancient Isis images, and along the way her iconography was deeply appropriated into Christian iconography. The staying power of the universal mother is strong. She's survived many fires, and she'll survive many more.

It's weird - here we have violent murders in B.C. and the news is focused on a fire in a church!

Do you think there's been enough on the news yet about this fire?

We have non-violent murders here in Alberta. We're much better than BC

We used to have violent murders in Alberta but then we elected the UCP.....solved that problem
