Re: SWINE FLU vs. OTHER STRAINSNov 6th, 2009
I got my seasonal flu shot today, the Swine shot in about 3 more weeks. I think what a lot of people are overlooking is the fact that those of us born before 57 won't get a severe dose of the Swine if indeed we get it at all. I am a little concerned about my grand kids, the 8 year old spent a night in the hospital last Xmas with pneumonia, but I would imagine they will all be getting it at school.
I keep hearing that anyone born before 57 may have some immunity. I do recall being as sick as a dog when I was really really young. I must have been awfully sick since I still remember it. We had wood heaters in every room of the house during the winter and I recall laying on a blanket on the floor in front of the wood stove where it was really hot.
I worry too about all my grandkids but most of all I worry about our oldest. I thought he would rank high on the list but he doesn't seem to. That is another worry - that the kids will bring it to us. As I have said repeatedly, they come here twice a week after school or all day depending on whether or not school is in.
I made up a spare room in our house tonight just in case one of us gets sick. I think it's better to be as alone as one can be or at least not sleeping with your spouse if you do get the flu.
I guess I better inquire again about regular flu shots. Seems like lots of people have had them and yet our clinic said the government would not let them give them. Maybe things have changed.
