Your favourite car that you've driven

Well, I do a lot of travelling and I can think of a few cars that I really liked the handling of and I like posting pictures, eh.. So I'll start from the most recent and say what I liked.

Audi A6 (2007) - Sixt

This was a fun car to drive, acceleration was nice and speed held easily at 200km/h. I did about 600km between Berlin and Hamburg recently but it was a little big for driving in both cities.

Suzuki SX4 (2007) - Avis

Well I didn't really like this car very much. I wasn't able to test it at any high speeds and it wasn't very feature packed. Extremely easy to find parking for, though. Drove between Montreal and Toronto and everywhere inbetween (about 4000km all together). It was automatic, but such a small car would be better if it was manual.

Ford Taurus (2007) - Avis

This car sucked! I drove it when I was in San Francisco and I swear every other hotel in the hotel parking lot was a ford taurus! I didn't even know they made these anymore. It was fine though for going up San Francisco city hills.. including Lombard street! eek.

BMW 530i (2007) - Sixt

What a dream! Everything was nice about this one.

BMW 320 coupe (2007) - Sixt

Also pretty nice to drive. A little bit downgraded from the 5 series, but really nice to handle. This one was a manual transmission.

Dodge Caliber (2006, I think) - Budget

From Miami to Orlando.. this car got about 8000km from me while I was in Florida. Thank god it was unlimited milage So yeah, this was OK. The car didn't have any real power though but I'm used to driving German or Swedish! I've never tested out an American car on a German freeway so it's hard to say whether this thing will even go about 120km/h.. which is the maximum I've done on a US motorway.



Oh an of course my baby, Mercedes R350 4matic:

Too big for my locale.. would gladly downgrade to an SLK. I don't drive it long distances anyways, which is why I rent a lot.


What have you driven and how did you like it? Just curious because I don't want another Suzuki or Ford when I fly into Pearson.

This was my last new sports car. A 1962 Austin Healey 3000 mk 2 This is a photo off the net. My own car was black. I'll put a photo up when I get my scanner working.

The Austin Healey was a great car but it had absolutely no protection against door dings. I swear there would have been a market in Vancouver in the 1960s for foam rubber padding to protect your car in parking lots.

Of your cars Andem, I liked the 530 i....A car I always wanted.

I agree, the BMW 5 series is awesome.

When I was a young(er)man I owned a whole procession of Austin Healeys, Triumphs, MGs, I even owned a clapped out old Porsche 356 Speedster that was probably the fastest of the lot. It sounded like it had a crankcase full of tin cans but it went like hell and I sold it for exactly what I paid for it.

Mine isn't anything new or even what would be considered special by most. But the sentimental value of it to me is through the roof. Bought new, I bought it from my dad in the 80s and he just stored it for me in the garage. Kept it up when I was not around and eventualy one they sold their home, I had to move it out here to Ontario where it no sits in my garage waiting for some time and money. It's in near new condition as you can see and has 77000 miles on it. I think it will be my last car as once I am in full putter about mode, I expect to become compleately eccentric. :smile:

You have a very nice car there. A few weeks back I saw a 1957 chevy in near perfect shape, followed by a beautiful Dodge crown royal. A few seconds later My wife pointed out that there was a restored car club doo in town and we were seeing some of the members. I can spend hours just looking at well kept old cars..

Cars... i haven't driven a car in 10 years except for one trip around Fort St John chauffering my mother-in-law in her Buick Rendezvous.

I went from a Geo Metro in highschool, to minivans, to a 3/4ton, and back to a minivan (Dodge Grand Caravan right now... what a sweet ride). A car would freak me out at this point!!

Two favoites....back in high school, I had the use of my father's 73 Pontiac Catalina, with an Olds 350 4bbl engine...I could lie down on the back seat....don't know why that was important in high school, but there ya go.

More recently, last fall, for my birthday, my wife rented me a Mustang GT convertible. She and I and the two kids went for a nice drive....it was a hoot.

Fords

I've had both a Mustang and a T-bird as rentals. Wimps. I have driven the real deal back in the old days. Not the same, now.

But I had a Honda CRX once. And I was cruising down this long, empty highway. And the speedometer said it would go to 120 mph, so I thought I'd give it a go. And away we went. Handled like a dream.

Gas mileage was great, too. Love those old Hondas. Now I have a 5 year old Toyota. No complaints.

I sure like it. Not many can say they have the car they learned to drive, got their licence, drove to Grad and scored at the drive in for the first time in the garage. Seems people have a lot of fond memories of these cars and the few times I've taken it out, I've gotten plenty of compliments.

Just up the road a few blocks is a shopping centre that during the summer months, "Cruisers" congregate to pay homage to the piston gods. Plenty of sharp oldies parked in there, with some guys even wearing car coats if you remember back to the style of the 50s. I think I'd like to fill my days with boats cars and guitars.

Well, lemmee see .... I have had a 1956 Willys pickup that I wish I still had fro a few reasons, a 1972 Jeep CJ-5 that I'm glad I got rid of, a 1969 Plymouth GTX 440+6 that I wish I still had cuz it was out and out awesome, a 1968 F-250 4WD that was ok, a 1971 F-350 that was cool, a 1978 Chrysler Cordoba that was sooooo nice on long trips, a 1970 Charger that everyone seemed to love to dent, a 1979 Bronco that I kept the 429 from, and now I have a 2001 Dakota that I really like except for the color.
So the GTX and the Willys were my faves. Wish I had kept my one and only bike, too; 1968 Triumph Bonneville.

This was my favourite.
It's pretty peppy. 0 - 145 mph in 9.3 seconds.
The only downfall is the fuel is expensive and the milage sucks.8O It's only good for a quarter mile at a time.
