Best goal of the entire tourney scored here:

It's a shame that the goal scorer didn't receive an award for this precision goal.

Bar down and everything! It certainly was England's best goal of the tourney.

Third place is pretty nice for a team that had never previously won a knockout match in a Women's World Cup; who get paid a miniscule amount compared to the US professional players; and who are still considered a semi-professional side.

Third place is pretty nice if you're Englaish.

Remember: women's football is professional in the US and is a huge sport there. Whereas it's semi-professional in England and is a minor sport (only 2.5 million or so people in the UK watched England's Semi-Final against Japan). Yet England still finished third. Just imagine what will happen when the sport becomes professional in this country and more girls take up the sport as a result of the England women's side's World Cup success. A few years from now and England will be world beaters.

IF the sport becomes professional in England and they can actually afford to pay the women decent salaries what will happen is exactly what is happening in the so called Premier League. Foreign women will fill up the teams just like foreign players do in the English Men's league.

Which is why Premier League is so good and the Engerlish national team sucks a ss.

Because Japan's defending was amateurish. The Slug and Lettuce's team would have been able to score five against Japan last night.

Japan whipped the English.

If the US had played England last night I beleieve England would have won.
England would have been blanked.

Bruised pride? She'd just seen her team finish third in the World Cup after beating the pre-tournament favourites and the best team on the planet, Germany.
She just had sour grapes seeing the US Women winning it all... AGAIN.

I don't give a ****. They would not have found England as easy as they found Japan last night. England would have defended much better.
England would have been much easier to beat.

ENGLAND, ENGLAND, ENGLAND! ENGLAND, ENGLAND, ENGLAND!
Third Place Participation Medal.

Which is why I question you and Eagle when you said the Brits can't score. Clearly they can with this goal being a prime example of how they do it.
I don't recollect saying they can't score. Quite the contrary, Engerland wins every game it doesn't play by at least 10 goals. Just ask Blackleaf.

Outcome's a mite different in games they actually play.

Best team on the planet in Woman's Soccer is the US.

In fact, the co-commentator on the match on BBC Two last night, who is an English women's footballer, said that England would likely have beaten the USA had they reached the Final.

That doesn't say much considering the first time the Anglash ladies ever placed was once and it was this year.

As the commentators said, international ladies soccer has vastly improved. This can be readily seen in the heightened intensity and precision shown during tournament play. But what was sadly lacking was the quality of the officiating. FIFA needs to improve the quality of the female officials or use male officials to insure that the next series of games will surpass what we just witnessed in the WWC.

Yep.. well done to England.

And the U.S... as insufferable and immodest as they always are in victory.. they are the best women's team in the world right now.

Disappointing tourney for Canada on homeground.. i had higher hopes.. but let's rally ladies for the Pan Ams. The U.S. womens team isn't going to show up, beneath their dignity, i guess.

I still say Germany are the best, despite their poor World Cup. The best team in the world very rarely wins the World Cup. Luck wins it for you.

Oh please... Just go back to the Olympic Hockey threads. Hypocrite.

They would have won that too no doubt.

Not for long. China will see to that within the next five years or so.

England women's team: FA deletes 'unfortunate' tweet

6 July 2015
BBC News

The Football Association has deleted an "unfortunate" social media post in which it said England's women's team were "going back to being mothers" after returning from the World Cup.

The @England Twitter post read: "Our #Lionesses go back to being mothers, partners and daughters today, but they have taken on another title - heroes."

The message was deleted and the same wording in an online story was changed.

An FA source told the Press Association it had been "unfortunately phrased".

In a statement, the FA added: "The full story was a wider homecoming feature attempting to reflect the many personal stories within the playing squad as has been told throughout the course of the tournament.

"However, we understand that an element of the story appears to have been taken out of context and the opening paragraph was subsequently revised to reflect that fact."

The author of the online article, James Callow, said he rejected "any accusation of sexism".

"The piece is intended to sum up a nice moment when players are reunited with their families," he wrote on his own Twitter account.

"Human interest is a big part of any sports reporting. I'd have done the same for England men, absolutely."

England finished third at the Women's World Cup in Canada after beating Germany 1-0 after extra-time in their final match on Saturday.

The Football Association has deleted an "unfortunate" social media post in
which it said England's women's team were "going back to being mothers"

That's PATHETIC by the FA.. and i mean deleting the post as if 'Mother' is a disparaging term. I think two members of the team ARE mothers, and should take that deletion/apology as an insult.
