A 43-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder in Tuesday afternoon’s random stabbing of another woman on a TTC streetcar.

Toronto Police say Leah Valdez also faces charges of aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace, and possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized for the attack.

Officers were called to investigate the stabbing on the streetcar, which was heading south on Spadina Ave. near Sussex Ave., around 2 p.m.

A 23-year-old woman was on the streetcar when an unknown woman approached and stabbed her multiple times.

The victim was taken to hospital with life-altering injuries and police said following the attack she was in stable condition.

Investigators subsequently identified and arrested a suspect.

Valdez, of Toronto, was scheduled to appear in court virtually on Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-1400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The stabbing was just the latest in a string of attacks on the TTC towards both riders and employees.

On Wednesday morning, two TTC workers were chased by a person with a syringe at Dundas Station and a suspect was arrested.

Two TTC workers were also swarmed by a group of boys on a bus Monday night and four 13-year-old boys have since been charged.

A female bus driver was hit in the face by a pellet gun in a driveby shooting on Saturday while she was at a bus stop waiting to start her shift.

Amalgamated Transit Union Canada national president John Di Nino has called for a national task force as violent attacks on public transit has reached a “crisis level.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. is the largest open-air shooting range in the world.

Maybe your gun policies and laws aren't entirely crazy.

Oh we have plenty of those too. Not as many as the states but pretty close per capita.

And really - dead is dead. So if people are getting killed with knives, how is that any better?

If anything this proves that our gun laws are pointless.

But its retrograde leftie thinking like yours that prevents the real problems from being addressed. Justin is piling on gun laws - and yet shootings have gone up and violence is way up across the board.
