A 43-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder in Tuesday afternoon’s random stabbing of another woman on a TTC streetcar.
Toronto Police say Leah Valdez also faces charges of aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace, and possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized for the attack.
Officers were called to investigate the stabbing on the streetcar, which was heading south on Spadina Ave. near Sussex Ave., around 2 p.m.
A 23-year-old woman was on the streetcar when an unknown woman approached and stabbed her multiple times.
The victim was taken to hospital with life-altering injuries and police said following the attack she was in stable condition.
Investigators subsequently identified and arrested a suspect.
Valdez, of Toronto, was scheduled to appear in court virtually on Wednesday.

The stabbing was just the latest in a string of attacks on the TTC towards both riders and employees.
On Wednesday morning, two TTC workers were chased by a person with a syringe at Dundas Station and a suspect was arrested.
Two TTC workers were also swarmed by a group of boys on a bus Monday night and four 13-year-old boys have since been charged.
A female bus driver was hit in the face by a pellet gun in a driveby shooting on Saturday while she was at a bus stop waiting to start her shift.
Amalgamated Transit Union Canada national president John Di Nino has called for a national task force as violent attacks on public transit has reached a “crisis level.”
