In New York a woman out walking her dogs after dark was shot to death by a neighbor who mistook her for a deer and shot her from 200 yards with a pistol.

There is about 5 things wrong with that statement and I seriously doubt that this is what actually happened.

Assuming a pistol could even have any hitting power at 200 yds it would be blind shithouse luck to hit what you were aiming for. Sounds kind of fishy.

Dear...Deer...you know...?
;)

It was bad enough when we had to label the cows with the word "COW" when the Americans come to hunt...I am not sure that some women will want to wear that safety sign.

Maybe, it was that "fascinator" on her head that looked like white Tail Deer antlers?

Is the modern replacement for a sword.

Who hunts deer with a pistol? Some LA gang member?

Seriously? There's a whole subculture of pistol hunters. In this case it was a special, single-shot target pistol designed for hunting, and generally wielded by idiots.

I would say that idiots would hunt deer with pistols because you should make DAMNED SURE that your shot (not a magazine full, either) is a fatal one and that the animal won't suffer a lingering death. That says long rifle with a scope to me. Anything else is irresponsible.

Yeah, now it makes sense.

A Thompson Contender or something similar, firing a rifle cartridge.

For the uninitiated, there are a number of "pistols" made for deer hunting, really kinda like cut down rifles.

All of which, btw, certainly does not excuse the idiot hunter shooting after dusk.............

That is actually true.

I hunt in redneck heaven, and you rarely see shot up signs anymore.

If only a good guy with a gun had been there.

Try not to be an idiot.

I know it is difficult for you.

This was a hunting accident, fer cryin' out loud.

Emphasis on accident.

No, sir. With all due respect this was an "accident" only if you consider violation of every single rule of weapons safety, hunting safety, and ordinary sense an "accident."

This guy was an idiot. He violated the law as well as the rules, and he should pay. Pour encouragez les autres.

I understand what you're saying. In legal terms, he lacked the "mens rea" for a crime. But that does not excuse the fact that a woman is dead, as the direct result of his reckless idiocy.

-- A hunter who shot and killed a woman he mistook for a deer as she went on an evening walk with her dogs has been indicted on manslaughter charges, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The shooting occurred well after sunset, when hunting is prohibited.

Jadlowski surrendered himself to police and was arraigned today in Chautauqua County Court on charges including manslaughter in the 2nd degree and hunting after legal hours.

Jadlowski entered a not-guilty plea. Bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property. He's due back in court in late January.

The charges carry a potential prison term of five to 15 years, according to a DEC news release.

"I hope this sends a loud and clear message that illegal hunting after sunset is dangerous and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said in a statement.

All absolutely true.
